I didn't see the game. So I don't have to read this thread, can someone please summarize why we lost badly to USF and SCU? Is it a) less talent or b) poor coaching / fundamentals or c) both. Thanks.

Santa Clara only turned the ball over 20 times. The Bears need mediocre teams to turn the ball over at least 40 times to have a chance.

Surely we must have had at least one offensive rebound, but for the life of me, I can't remember seeing one.
Stat sheet says SEVEN but I don't believe that. I know we had VERY few points off o boards
The total is 7 but only 4 are attributed to players: 1 each to Kelly, South, Thiemann, and Harris-Dyson.

Much of it might depend on his personal motivation to work hard and improve... and if he can absorb coaching.
... and if he gets coaching.

I think he can become an effective basket attacker because of his speed and hops. This season he has made layups and drive dunks he always missed last year. He draws contact so he has to learn to knock down his FT.

He missed layups at Santa Clara. He is good for a while until the opposing team adjusts. His foul shootings is about 50% so when he misses the layup you usually get 1 point.

I'm hoping JHD is able to realize his potential quickly, as he is about 30% of the way into his junior year.

I am afraid that expecting JHD to realize his potential soon is unlikely.

Think of Willy Cauly-Stein, who has been in the NBA for several years now and is still miles away from realizing his potential.

Also, think of Jason Kidd, who was showing a whole lot of his potential (short of his ability to shoot the ball well from any distance away from the basket) by the time he was in 8th grade.

Some guys take a long time to learn how, intelligently, to play this game. Some never figure it out.

There is a reason no one took him while in the transfer portal.

Well, on the one hand, you have a guy like Javelle McGee who came in with a pretty poor rep, worked hard, focused on the things he could do, and worked himself into a guy who starts on the Lakers (thanks to DeMarcus Cousins getting hurt again).

That said, having watched a fair amount of WCS this year for the first time, a lot of microanalyzing could be done of what he can and cannot do, but it's easier just to sum it up as "He sucks."

Perhaps he has reached his potential, and what we're seeing now is what we're going to get.

I think he improved from last year

He is a key rotation guy. We need length and athletes for defense

We will have to probably live with inconsistently

Thanks. I'm senile. I was just watching a show and wondered why tRump had troops landing on a beach in France.
