Nice Spirt coats
They looked more like the top half of a zoot suit.
How many on this site do you suppose know what a zoot suit was? ("zoot suit with a drape shape and a reet pleat")
I came about my coat, when Lowell was having a dance with a "Roaring '20s" theme, where we would all learn to dance "The Charleston". We were all encouraged to come in costume. So I went to a costume shop down on Divisadero, and asked to see clothes from the 1920s. They brought out this sportcoat, and told me it was the upper half of a zoot suit, but they didn't have the lower half. The coat had 3/4" wide vertical stripes, alternating red and white colors, which happened to be :Lowell's school colors. I got a big floppy white chapeau, went home and got a pair of pegged pants out of my closet, buck shoes, and I was good to go. At the dance, most of the girls knew the Charleston, but the boys did not, so we just stood by and cheered the girls as they danced with each other or in a row, like a chorus line. My coat was the hit of the dance, until the girls started dancing, and the coat was no longer interesting to anyone.
