BERKELEY California will open the 2020-21 men's basketball season against Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., on Wednesday, Nov. 25. The contest between Pac-12 foes will be played as a non-conference game.

The date became available after Cal's previously scheduled game against Colorado State was canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Rams' program. The Cal-OSU game will remain at 4 p.m. PT and be broadcasted on the Pac-12 Network, as was originally scheduled.

"In a year when disruption is likely the norm, we had to adjust with our own COVID-19 shutdown earlier this month, and now with Colorado State's situation," said Cal head coach Mark Fox. "It was not possible to replace Colorado State on such short notice and playing Oregon State proved to be the best solution because it's most important that we play when we can safely do so."

The Golden Bears will still play NAIA member Northwest University at 3 p.m. PT Thursday in their second game at the Oregon State multiple-team event (MTE). Both games will be at Gill Coliseum.

Osu will now play Northwest on Friday, having a one day break between games. Cal playsvtwo days in a row, which is what they would have done if Colorado State had come.

> Bozeman constantly told his players: "Two baskets and a ball." It was a statement referring to his players' concentration on the road, but it had a deeper meaning that would later come back to haunt Bozeman. One of tunnel vision. "I might have placed too much emphasis on that," he said..

Hopefully since basketball doesn't involve a d-line.

It's wise to stay away from any video named "Two <items>, One <different item>". Some of them you can't easily unsee and may mentally scar you for life.

I think Cal has a good chance to beat Osu. Tinkle gone and we have some grad transfer sharp shooters. No fans equalizes things. Comments?

We def have a chance to win. OSU only 1.5 pt favorites.

I agree, it comes down to Foreman and Betley. If they can score 25 combined and Foreman can provide some solid backup PG minutes, I think we win.

Last year, Cal was dead last in conference in defense, and most defensive categories, dead last in scoring, assists, and A/TO ratio. Cal lost point guard Austin and SG Kareem South. Brown and Foreman are both question marks. One needs to find a shot, and find some assists. The other shot well in much lower level competition. Hopefully, he will be as good as Kareem South, a similar player. One grad transfer looks like a good player, but has been injured. Cal needs to really play better offense, and that includes many more assists, learning how to hit the glass on the offensive end. They really need to tighten up their defense, inside and out.

OSU also lost Kylor Kelley, their 7-footer, who was way better as a senior than was our 7-foot freshman, and they didn't land any top 100 recruits, according to sports-reference. Both teams need games and time to see if they can replace what they lost, and improve what they had last year. Both teams lost two starters, but Cal picked up some interesting players, so perhaps Cal has a slight edge in this early game. Cal will be more athletic, with Thorpe and Kuany, and hopefully both have significantly improved. The big guy, Lars, is still a big question mark. It may come down to the only really good players on the floor, Bradley and Thompson. The lack of fans will be a factor, but Cal will still be shooting at less familiar rims, always a possible factor. I love a close game, and this should be one.

Any guesses as to who starts? Kuany or one of the transfers?

last year's stats are not instructive. Try stats for last 10 games and see how the Bears did.

This early starting probably isn't that big of a deal but all things being equal I would Joel at the PG, Matt, Grant, either Andre or Lars or both, or one of them with Kuany.

The big question for me is PG, how much improvement from Joel or if Foreman can step in?

Second questing is lineup. Does Bradley finally move to the 2? Who gets South's and Austin minutes at the 2/3?
