And the author of the article is Solomon Hughes. A Cal basketball alumnus interviewing another Cal basketball alumnus for California Magazine. It doesn't get more Cal-centric than that.

Sol went on to get his MA at Cal and PhD at Georgia and is the Associate Director of the EDGE Doctoral Fellowship Program at Stanford. He started at Stanford as an academic advisor for varsity athletes.

His first job at Stanford after his PhD was as an academic advisor for varsity athletes. You can't blame him for not wanting to work for Sandy Barbour at Cal, she was the AD at Tulane that refused to release him from an LOI signed at age 17, resulting in him having to sit out two years before he could play at Cal and lose a year of eligibility. She even lied a year later arguing against his second appeal and said Tulane had reserved his scholarship for two years. Meanwhile other players who signed LOI's and broke were granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.

That it is Stanford is unfortunate, but that's great to hear!

Will people be up in arms if he calls himself Dr. Solomon Hughes?
