His first job at Stanford after his PhD was as an academic advisor for varsity athletes. You can't blame him for not wanting to work for Sandy Barbour at Cal, she was the AD at Tulane that refused to release him from an LOI signed at age 17, resulting in him having to sit out two years before he could play at Cal and lose a year of eligibility. She even lied a year later arguing against his second appeal and said Tulane had reserved his scholarship for two years. Meanwhile other players who signed LOI's and broke were granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.
