National power awaits Mitty girls in state Open Division title game (sfchronicle.com)

Frosh post, McKenna Woliczko (6-2), received her 8th scholarship offer this week from USC. She also has offers from UCLA, Stanford, Arizona, Ohio State, Florida & Vanderbilt. Junior PG Morgan Cheli (6-2) has over 40 D-I offers including UConn, South Carolina, etc.

HC Sue Phillips rotates approximately 9-10 players to keep her players fresh for their full court trap/ press. Etiwanda (31-3) upset #1 ranked and undefeated Sierra Canyon last Saturday night. Archbishop Mitty (28-2) lost to Sierra Canyon for the state crown last season by 22 points. Tonight, the Monarchs step back into the ring to try to win their 7th state championship. The SoCal champs are led by #11 junior captain 6-1 forward Kennedy Smith. Puff Morris #25 is their 5-5 soph point guard. Smith and Morris scored 21 & 19 points, respectively, in their massive upset of Sierra Canyon.

It's streamed on NFHS Network tonight at 6 pm from Sacramento. Go Monarchs!

Tough loss. Archbishop Mitty did not press much because of the athleticism of Etiwanda. Mitty had 21 turnovers and did not dominate the boards like they normally do. The Monarchs had the final possession but #15 Layla Woods threw the ball away intended for Morgan Cheli. The normal inbound passer is Maya Hernandez but she fouled out.

The demographics of Silicon Valley make the roster make-up of Mitty (predominantly Caucasian & Asian) a tough match-up against teams like Sierra Canyon and Etiwanda. Sue Phillips & Co will continue to dominate Northern California and attempt to win their seventh state championship. I predict the Monarchs will be the power in the SF Bay Area again next season. Oakland Tech could contend and be a tough matchup for AM next season.

Thanks for watching the game, wvitbear! GO BEARS! Go Monarchs!
