we still need a big for upcoming season, but I would guess a lot of the recruiting is focused on next year

If it's a big we want, there was a relatively recent grad x-fer portal entrant --- 6'1" Cal Poly's Leading scorer and rebounder (and shot blocker) last season at 12ppg and 8.9 rpg. I hadn't paid attention to the portal in a while, but it seems most have already committed for next year. Seems like she would make a lot of sense given the timing. She's sounds pretty solid and Frankly we probably are ok for next yr with the frontline we already have https://gopoly.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/natalia-ackerman/8821

Last November when Cal Poly came to Berkeley to play Cal, Natalia Ackerman tallied 12 points (6-9) and 5 rebounds in 19 minutes. Plus, 1 block and 1 steal. On the downside, she picked up 3 personal fouls.

Ackerman was their high scorer and top rebounder last season. They outrebounded Cal, 40-27.

I would take her in a heartbeat unless the Bears have someone superior. The former Aptos star led Cal Poly in scoring, rebounding & blocked shots. She hit zero three pointers. She exactly fits the bill. Her 8.9 rebounds per game is impressive for a 6-1 forward. Her field goal percentage of 58.1% is superior to anyone at Cal.

Last season in conference play Michelle Onyiah shot .614 and Natalia Ackerman shot .613, basically the same. Ackerman had significantly more minutes, rebounds, blocks, and steals but fewer fouls. From her Cal Poly bio: "... off the court, earned Big West All-Academic honors"

She looks interesting but I don't know how her game would transition to a stronger conference.

stu-I think about what will happen when one or both of our only two returning rebounders, Suarez & Onyiah, get in foul trouble and have to sit. Unless the 6-3 frosh or one of the guards/wings becomes a force as a rebounder, Cal could get killed on the glass. This is why Charmin should have already landed another rebounder. I'm not in love with Ackerman but she seems willing to go to battle on the boards for the Bears.
