demand the ball, michelle!!!! (berkeley's only +1 athletic basketball player)#

the university of california, berkeley=#1 ranked public university in the world (for ELITE skateboarders)
michelle is interning with premium sales & sat with me for 10 minutes at the game, tole her she's my favorite women's basketball player of all time (along with gennifer brandon who she does not know) with her unreal +1 athleticism & mega watt smile

to reach her untapped potential michelle gotta stay outta foul trouble, tole her would like to see her not body up opponents 15+ feet from the basket but rather keep a foot or two of space that she can quickly close with her quick twitch reflexes

onyiah is in great physical shape for the 2024/2025 season & is a big fan of incoming froshie point guard zahra king from brooklyn who is a highlight reel with her east coast moves in the preseason practices

michelle in addition to being a skateboard junkie might be the smartest bear of them all with her current grad work studies in nuclear hydration bioscience of phosphate compounds or something

and yeah we both luv lindsay gottlieb & michelle confirmed that lindsay has inquired the last 2 offseasons about transferring to usc

michelle, tonite at 6:00 pm is the opening game tip off for ur 5th & final year of collegiate basketball, r u ready to roll?

u tole me something at the football game that wuz very disturbing, u said u think a lotta of ur foul problems r because the refs are treating u unfairly

michelle, in all honestly that is 100% NOT TRUE, there is not a single women's basketball ref on planet earth that got an agenda against u, got it?

no wonder u have led the nation in fouling out during ur career, blaming others (the refs) for ur dumb decisions is gonna lead to a **** situation again and again and again and again and again

r u tired of watching that movie??

ur my favorite basketball player (shocky got zero interest in the nba), michelle but plz don't be a dumb azz!!

I've always felt Michele and Charmin had a close relationship. When Charmin's partners son sat on Michele's lap, I knew she knew them well. Maybe even babysat for them.

Players like Michelle are the reason I usually prefer college to pro basketball: watching raw talent succeed and fail and get up again and succeed, becoming more polished and powerful along the way, is truly entertaining, sometimes inspiring.

california golden bears 90
st marys gaels 58

key stat of the nite: 1 FOUL (and ZERO frustration with the refs) for michelle!!...and still playing paint shot altering d plus 4 blocked shots, 11 points on an efficient 4 of 7 field goals 3-4 free throws, 5 boards & 2 assists & only 2 turnovers

lulu's shooting stroke is money: 24 points on only 10 shots from the floor, my favorite australian along with lachlan wilson is a mamushi killah and a star star star star star star

tryna to replace leilani: kayla got 6 unselfish assists & plays d with a high motor but gotta pass on 3 pointers unless they're uncontested or in the last 5 seconds of the play clock

marta & ionna: proven leadership but gotta do a better job of moving the ball, their unique scoring skills are predictably explosive

depth: natalia is much more active than the back up bigs the last couple of years, the not so slo grad will be the 1st big off the bench & gabrielle abrigor with her quick twitch movements got tremendous upside...no clear 1st guard/wing off the bench yet

the ugly: 19 turnovers will lose a ****ton games in the acc, got clean that **** up in aisle 7

Lulu's back in town.

I once thought I should have a song for each Cal player. Lulu's back in town was easy as is Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets.

Anyhow, coming into the season, I felt Lulu could have a big year. Although she shot poorly from 3 point land last year, she did have games where she was hot. I expected her to be like Lelani, in that she would improve every season. She also goes strong to the hoop.

I like our starting five. If Michele can stay out of foul trouble (and it looks good so far). And the freshmen look good but raw. They need playing time and they will get it.

I'm heading off to Sequoia National Park today so you all will have to hold down the fort. I'll hug the two bigfest trees in the world (General Sherman and General Grant trees).

Enjoy your time at Sequoia.

It's nice to have quality depth. It might take a while to mold the three parts (returners, transfers and freshmen) into a cohesive unit, but you could see glimpses of it towards the end of the game. Charmin seems confident that she can get quality minutes from anyone coming off the bench at any stage of a game. Refreshing.

Playing Marta and Michelle at the same time presents colossal matchup problems for the opposition, especially from Cal defense and rebounding . I need to see the Bears exploit this physical advantage with better (team) execution.on the offensive end. The defense will certainly create lots of transition opportunities. Our new backcourt players show plenty of new talent and raw energy. It's early and the flow chemistry is achievable. We have not been tested and they will be facing bigger challenges beginning later in November.

The future of this lineup will be decided by the entire team.exploiting the efforts of Marta and Michelle creating opportunities on the offensive and defensive boards as well as defensive rim protection.

We have three solid three point shooters when open. I love it when Lulu, Marta and Ioanna are on the court at the same time, moving the rock to the open player.

As always, Just My Humble Opinion and $.02 as a hoop junkie and Bear season ticket holder for decades. There are a lot of smart people in this forum who may not agree.

confidential to wvitbear - congrats. my better half's family built a primitive cabin in wilsonia ~100 years ago, handed down to the kid's kids, so for a while it used to be a summertime home away from home. just in case you're at loose ends, go back up the hill from GenGrant tree to the Wilsonia visitor center then take the pretty good narrow paved dead-end road to the lightly visited ridge aptly called Panoramic Point, for long views east, um, esp when fresno smog blows the other way. tmi - once upon a time we skied to PanPoint from the visitor center, midwinter, and ended up literally crashing back down in total darkness.

ugonne foul watch: 2 fouls in 15 minutes but michelle onyiah dominating the glass with an unreal 8 boards in limited playing time en route to a quick 10 points on an efficient 5 of 7 field goals along with 3 turnovers

starting the offense: after leading the nation last year in moving screen fouls, this season coach smith & the staff need to protect michelle from foul problems & not initiate the offense with her setting screens 20-25 feet from the bucket...the potential benefit is far outweighed by the downside of losing the team's best defender/rebounder to foul trouble

turnover watch: 16 turnovers will lose a lotta games in the acc

attendance: 5,066 (this innovative school haas rock game for elementary students predates markeisha everett's failure to brand/market the cal women's basketball program at a time of unprecedented growth/popularity of women's basketball)

california golden bears 82

ugonne foul watch: 2 fouls (both unnecessary tryna defend entry passes to a post player with limited mobility) in 16 minutes (along with a master of the house dominating 10 rebounds) along with yet another moving screen early in the 3 quarter that wuz not called by the refs (initiating the bears offense with onyiah setting screens 20 feet from the top of the key needs to be deleted from the playbook by the staff)

fun fact: as highlighted by the above bucket, michelle runs the floor as athletically as any big in the united state of america & its territories including ibiza!

bears depth/playing rotation is a work in progress: the starting big 5 of michelle onyiah, quick release ionna krimili (18 points on 6 of 12 field goals), the speedy/unselfish kayla williams (16 points on an efficient 6 of 11 field goals), my favorite australian (along with lachlan wilson) lu lu twisdale (14 points on 3 of 6 three pointers), & marta suarez (10 points but zero assists, needs to work on sharing the ball/better court vision) are solid but other than the experienced natalia ackerman (8 points & 7 boards in 13 minutes) nobody has developed yet into the 7th/8th player until clauida langarita returns from her injury

turnover watch: significant improvement: 8 turnovers will win a lotta games in the acc!!

potential championship building win tonite on the road in spokane by 21 points!!

ugonne foul watch: 2 early fouls sidelined her most of the 1st half & then 2 moving screen fouls early in the 2nd half sidelined her again...michelle needs to take accountability, at the same time coach charmin & the staff need to immediately discontinue the bears offense starting with ugonne setting a screen 20 feet from the basket, this should be kinda obvious after her leading the nation in moving screen fouls each of the last several seasons...the key to the 2024/25 season is michelle staying out of foul trouble!!

kayla williams: 25 points on 9 of 12 field goals & 4 of 6 three balls along with 6 assists & only 2 turnovers...the usc transfer is both crafty & composed!!

lulu twidale (gotta good ponytail): 18 points on 6 of 11 field goals & 3 of 7 three balls, the australian is always smiling even on the biggest stages as she delivers ice in her veins moneyballs from the great barrier reef!!

ionna krimili: 17 points on 5 of 10 field goals & 3 of 6 three balls, gotta ridiculously quick release...but her best stat of the nite wuz zero turnovers!!

marta suarez: 14 points on 6 of 12 field goals despite playing with 4 fouls

turnover watch: only 12 on the road, that's taking care of the ball/valuing possessions

experienced leadership: other than lulu, the bears 7 deep rotation are all battle tested in their final year of eligibility

spoke with michelle today at the football game, congratulated her on the team's exciting 4-0 start!!

tole her again that the biggest key to the 2024/25 season will be contingent upon her staying outta foul trouble, onyiah tole me she understands that & that's she tryna stay outta foul trouble

tole her that she's doing a better job of not bodying up on opposing bigs when they're over 15 feet from the hoop, onyiah agrees it's better to let posts shoot the long range jumper rather than risk a ticky tack foul in tryna block a low percentage perimeter shot

we also talked at length about the 2 moving screen fouls that started the 3rd quarter at gonzaga, she says its the team offensive scheme for her to set screens for guards/wings

note to coach charmin & the staff: after multiple years of michelle leading the nation is moving screen fouls, now is the time to be adaptive & discontinue any schemes that have onyiah tryna set screens further afar from the basket, got it??

wvit, the fact that all the bigs got into foul trouble is a very troubling sign for future acc results & is a byproduct of poor coaching, the bears are NOT gonna make almost 50% of their 3 pointers in the future to bail them out

Shocky1,
What in the world are you doing confronting Michelle on her day off from basketball at a Football Game!
It isn't fair to her to have you coaching her., you have some nerve....I would think it was an uncomfortable situation for her. It is evident, you have no confidence in Charmin with your negative comments for years on this site. Do you really think confronting Michelle or e-mailing the coach is going to produce a winning team? You are a Lindsay Gottlieb fan. Do you confront USC players and e-mail her with your opinion, I doubt it. USC is national championship material due to having JuJu Watkins, and all of the NIL money in the world. What is your obsession with Cal WBB. Cal only tied for 6th place in the Pac-12, having five McDonald's All Americans on the court at times during Lindsay's last season. We all know what happened with Lindsay's abrupt departure and the ensuing Covid -19 years. My concerns are expecting players to travel up to 3,000 miles to play a basketball game in the ACC, and the wear and tear of Jet Lag and stress has on them physically and mentally. Thanks to Michelle, I now know What a Moving Screen is!!!! We all recognize she is a brilliant student athlete and fan favorite.

there's no sports book betting for wbb, the refs are just calling the games as they see them & sure they make their share of bad calls but that's just part of the game

but some players like kristine anigwe think the refs are always against them & it undermined her efforts to become a better player

attended a sun angel football donor dinner event back in the day & then asu head basketball coach charli wuz one of the guest speakers...she wuz asked why asu always beats cal despite the bears having more talent on paper than the sun devils...charli (very street smart stanford grad) just laughed & said that she knows anigwe is PARANOID & that by instructing her post players to bang/body up on her that she would thinks the refs weren't protecting her and that would result in her lashing out with pushes/shoves & ultimately foul trouble which impacted the outcomes of the games...that's great coaching!!

and yeah the high potential trajectory of the bears 2024/25 season will be contingent upon ugonne staying out of foul trouble & allowing her quick twitch +1 athleticism to dominate the boards & interior paint defensively while scoring buckets in cal victories

^ the problem with this intolerant small minded non inclusive mentality is that it's NOT financially feasible/sustainable to operate a women's basketball program with the following financials:
https://calbears.com/documents/2024/1/25/FY23_UCB_Athletics_SRE_Website_Copy.pdf

2023/24 fiscal year:
operating revenues total $616,184
operating costs total $5,053,245
operating deficit is $4,437,060

keep in mind that the total operating deficit for the 2024/25 will be well over $5,000,000+ with the new acc east coast travel & the numerous new positions within the women's basketball program including director of creative content, director of graphic design and director of brand development

the total gameday ticket revenues for this time period wuz only $189,223 for an entire season which is absolutely pathetic given that the national popularity of women's basketball is at an all time high & that nearly every professional sports organization has exited the east bay sports marketspace but the truth of the matter is that markeisha everett is a lazy azz non innovative arrogant worthless bureaucrat when it comes to building fanbases/selling tickets so it's gonna take a grassroots effort to grow cal's women's basketball

cal's women's basketball needs to be branded as a FUN affordable family focused value play for golden state valkyries fans

and this needs to happen now, this season's special group of bears includes 6 of the top 7 players in the current playing rotation other than lulu departing berkeley after the final game, next season's team will be a total rebuild that will struggle to make buckets in the highly competitive acc...the time is now for everything!!

it's gonna take a BIG TENT to create a legit homecourt advantage for michelle and her teammates!!

I also keep in mind that I don't want to waste time arguing with strangers on social media, especially not this year. As I just told my favorite political humor blog (Andy Borowitz, of New Yorker fame, now runs his Borowitz Report at https://www.borowitzreport.com/), late-medieval history, literary crime novels and women's basketball have all been keeping me sane.
