It was a good (and loud) crowd but the best moment was at end of game when Charmin led the crowd in the Bear Territory cheer. She was so excited and explained why she did it in the Bearnsider post-game video.

This is a good and fun listen.

Many insightful answers from all three.

Really disappointed in our free throw shooting (just kidding, folks). I didn't want to leave Haas and when I did I wanted to click my heels. What a great team performance. I've been going to Cal-Stanfurd women's basketball games for over 30 years and have never seen anything like it. Hopefully this represents two programs going in opposite directions. It certainly means we're a top 25 team and are going to be taken very seriously from now on. Huge credit to the coaches who had the team prepared in every facet of the game. What a great night and how fun was it to see Charmin lead the Bear Territory chant post game? Go Bears forever!!!
Bringing Charmin Smith back was the right move.
For all the bashers on this site, respectfully, you were wrong on this issue. It's becoming obvious that with the right talent, Charmin is an excellent coach. Moving forward, the significant remaining challenge is if we can continue to recruit talented players. My cautiously optimistic guess is that we will.

With Jenny Huth on the staff now as Recruiting Coordinator, she will make sure Charmin has talented players on the roster - from high school AND the transfer portal - going forward.

I have always felt (and I hope I've posted) that Smith impresses as a person. If I had a basketball playing daughter, I would be more than happy to entrust her to Smith. Forget the basketball for a second, Smith just seems like a great mentor.

I don't know that people bashed Smith as much as said that, for whatever reason, the results weren't there. She had a big recruiting class early, and it didn't pan out and there were a series of transfers up to J. Curry. But, she does now seem to have the set of players she has wanted with guards and bigs - and she has used the portal effectively. And however it worked out that Oniyah came back - that has been a key (as people have noted for several years, Oniyah on the floor has made a difference.

"but they haven't been to the tournament, but they haven't won enough in conference...but, but, but"....

Right, not a good night for those who only post here if they can say something bad about Charmin....they are lurking though, you know they are....

I feel so good for Charmin. Its been a long haul to build this team and many fans didn't believe in her.

During the post-game press conference, Charmin talked about the other coaches being responsible for the team playing so well against Stanford. I am glad I was there to watch this well played game and all of the excitement inside Haas to get the Win! Students joined me on the bleachers, even sitting on the stairs and enjoying the game. The male student beside me and his friends knew Marta, and were cheering for her. I game him my rally towel. He is a sophomore, and was the point guard at Berkeley Highschool. He wants to play on the men's team. Thank-you BEARS for a terrific night of WBB!!

After the last game Charmin pointed out that Heidi did a great job in scouting Alabama. I was late for the chalk talk. It would have been nice to hear what they prepared for Stanford. Whatever it was it worked pretty well.

It was EP's scout. She mentioned that this was the first time they felt they were on equal terms with Stanford. The two bigs were gone and Cal could now match up Michelle and #3. Also didn't have to worry about the shot blockers. Cal's 3-point shooting was on par with Stanford. It was about winning the one-on-one defensive battles and Michelle being able to stay in the game.

EP also provided insight as to what type of players they recruit. This may be the reason why we're seeing a close-knit team. These are now Charmin's players - this may be why we're seeing the positive effects.

Could all the grads and seniors just stay at Cal for their Ph.D.s?

(Of course, what with the 2025-26 freshies, we'd then have about 20 players. Which would be cool.)
