Previously I had posed the question regarding Cal vs Stanford and which mattered more for a team's success- the coach or the players? So far this season Cal has been superior to Stanford. They lost Tara and several elite players. Charmin recruited a great team of players. Originally down on Charmin's ability for these past poor years' performances-I think I was wrong-maybe alongwith needing a little more time and experience-the main factor to excell was getting enough great players to work with. Now Stanford has an adequate coach in Paye and several good players like Agara but Charmin is kicking it!

Players win games but coaches recruit players.

For the next game, it's all about talent. For the future, it's all about recruiting.

Correct statement, except for the "maybe."

Hate to reply with the standard answer, but it really is a combination of coach, players, and at some point when a program moves up in reputation it becomes just a bit easier for a coach to get the players he/she wants. Hopefully that's what's happening with us now.
