Jayda looked like she turned her ankle, landing on the defense's foot? She returned to the bench for the rest of the game but looked like she was limping quite a bit. Hopefully not too serious but the next day is usually an indicator.

Lulu came in and hit the 3 FTs and seeing the ball go into the hoop seemed to have worked.

Pitt was not good. Cal did what they should have but hopefully not at the cost of losing Jayda for however long.

Back from game. Was a bummer, that the score board didn't keep statistics the second half. Just terrible.

Noticed in the warmups that Mafua was shooting the ball better than she had all year and sure enough she hit her first three.

Lulu's back in Town. She and Krimili were hot and that was all we needed. Didn't see Noble get hit. Looked like she was fouled after the shot as I was watching the ball instead of her. What happened?

Better crowd than I expected. would say around 2,400 to 2,500. Lots of kids. National Anthum was interesting as they had a color guard at midcourt from I guess the ROTC program. And they weren't dressed in pink.

Pitt played terbly. Only the girl from Fairmont West Virginia played well.

The broadcast said that the opening technical was for "an LED light issue". No other explanation. I guessed something about the 30 second clock?

Charmin said Jayda turned her ankle but that she'll be okay and confirmed that Michelle cramped late vs UNC

That was fun and easy. Pitt were terrible. Good to see the bench get so many minutes. Giselle looked good, might maybe earned herself some more minutes. Zahra and Kamryn are going to be good players for us (hopefully) as they mature. I agree that the crowd was in the 2500 range, some fair weather fans (literally) stayed home. Big challenges on the road next weekend.

I didn't see how Jayda got hurt because I too was following the ball. She looked like she was limping pretty badly but when I saw her in the corridor she told me she was OK. Sure hope so.

It was great to see Gisella and all of our freshies get significant playing time. Dunno why Pitt played Faye and Washenitz through the 4th quarter.

Also great to see our threes falling. And to see Michelle draw more fouls than she committed.

The crowd wasn't as big as against North Carolina but the energy and volume were again good.

Noble came down with her right foot landing on the Pitt player's foot which had been extended coming to to try and block Noble's shot. I assume that's why a foul was called. So, looked like Noble just turned her ankle. She returned to the bench later with her foot/ankle encased in ice.

When Noble attempted the 3,the defender stepped out to contest w/ her left leg extended. When Noble landed lon her shot (a foot or two inside the line), she rolled her right ankle on the defender's foot upon landing.

She was smiling at end of game in the high five line -hope it's a minor thing and she's back this week

Cal's shot clock isn't correct so refs can call technicals on them at the start of every game, if they wish, until it's fixed. Not sure if it's a sync issue

Thanks! Everyone was asking why Pitt got the FT.

Was the shot clock issue related to losing the scoreboard at halftime? <<< semi sarcasm

Yes, part of the problem.

It was suggested during a Golden Way postgame meetup with Charmin that we write emails to Knowlton and perhaps Facilities Mgmt. to get these issues resolved.

May we also write about turning down the half-time music so we can discuss the game with our seatmates?

After awhile, she removed the ice pack and put her shoe on without tieing laces

I'm sure they will ice and elevate her foot tonight, but she may wake up tomorrow in pain

But overall she looks to okay and should be ready for next game (based only on what I saw having been there too many times)

Is the lack of a box score more than 4 hours after the game finished (at both CalBears.com and ESPN.com) related to the aforementioned problems?

Maybe we should rewrite our software to run on some form of BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution, developed at Cal) .

If Mafua focuses on speed and agility training in the offseason, I think she'll have a great second year at Cal.

She's an extremely dynamic playerstrong, capable of shooting threes and playing insidebut just a step slower than ideal. That's fixable.

Any word on whether Ackerman will be available for Louisville? I'll remain optimistic on Noble, but we'll know more later.

I downloaded a sound app and it recorded 85-90 decibel levels throughout the time outs and pregame. You have to talk loud to your neighbor in order to have a conversation.

Earlier in the year Mafua wasn't shooting the three well. have to watch her in warmups and prctice cause she doesn't play enough to judge. For thos who are not at the game, she is the officizl greeter to the starting lineup and helps with their dance routines. Always has a great attitude. Does need to get stronger. She is more of a stretch four. Is not a center.

By the way, i saw something at the game I have never seen before, On a last second shot to end the quarter, the ball hit the rim, bounced up to the top of the back board and then fell to the ground. so far nothing unusual. Then it bounced from the floor back up to the rim and went in the hoop. Since it hit the top of the board, it was no longer in play, but would it haver counted if it jus hit the rim, then hit the floor and then went in the basket?

Question of the day. What day do the women fly out for their Thursday game?

my guess is that regardless of the backboard issue, the moment the ball hits the court it ends there.

Charmin was asked about Natalia after the game. Apparently, she tweaked her back during practice this past week. They're hoping with extended rest she may be able to play very soon. No timetable.

I'm no doctor but the way Tali was walking around on the bench, it sure doesn't look like she'll be playing this week.

I think a ball can hit the top of the rim as long as it doesn't hit the shot clock or any support (and don't think it did))

Regarding bouncing on the court and going in …. I think college rules allow it

I think it should have counted

At the very least it would have been a great HORSE shot

According to the rules a shot can't count if it hits the top of the backboard. Hitting the floor is okay as long as it bounces above the rim before entering. In yesterday's game the ball was dead once it hit the top of the backboard.
HoopDreams
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looks like you're right. Hitting top of backboard ends the shot, even if it doesn't hit the shot clock

But the ncaa women rule book also says if the ball hits the floor it's also dead

This is why I flunked out of referee duties… I discovered I didn't know some rules specifically enough (like backcourt)

Finnish, you really got me going on this one…. Apparently the NBA rule is different

In the NBA the ball can hit the top of the backboard and still stay in play, as long as it doesn't go over the back of the backboard

Some NBA rules are different than college and some high school rules are different too

That was what threw me on this one. Even if that shot on Sunday had hit the front of the backboard, the moment the ball hits the ground, if the clock is now at 0:00 the ball is now dead.

Woud the ball be dead if t was in the air snd it hit zero? I think the shot has to be finished.
