Obviously. michelle is unlikely to reach the next level (wnba) but I wonder if her game - strength down low and aggressive defense actually translates better to the wnba reffing, which is far less whistle-happy, especially in the paint.

Back from the game. Glad we got the win. I have to say that both teams were really competitive today. Really a good game. It felt like when Michelle came back in mid fourth quarter it boosted the confidence of the other players down the home stretch. Moving forward one of our biggest issues is STILL keeping her on the floor, reducing the fouls. The ACC is a very tough league. We better be ready on Thursday.
During the Presser, Charmin gave a shout out to Gabby for her play in today's game. Talia showed up also to fill the void. Michelle played really well, two of the fouls called on her were questioanable. The refs really slowed the game down with so many calls. So happy for the players they have 21 wins! It's a long and grinding season. Kudos to Charmin, staff and the players for flying across the country to play basketball, then to come home and win two games. I get antsy on cross country flights.
agree

I was 10 feet away from Michelle's 4th foul. Michelle barely bumped her with her body, and the player flopped. The ref who blew the whistle was behind Michelle on the other side of the baseline and had no angle to see the contact.

I hate when refs blow whistles without actually seeing the foul

Michelle's 2nd foul was also a horrible call. If that was a foul, you could literally call a foul on every play

When Michelle is on the court, Cal is a completely different team offensively, defensively and rebounding. Michelle is an elite athlete and has gotten so strong (see pics of her as a freshmen). She has really worked hard, and it's showing on the court.

They did the same to Jayda - she slapped the ball and the replay clearly showed that's all she touched.

yeah, I thought Lulu also cleanly hit the ball out of the hands of a player too, but I didn't see that nor the Jayda fouls as clearly as those two Michelle fouls.

I also think WBB refs call an excessive number of walks compared to MBB refs, and CERTAINLY more than the NBA/WNBA (who rarely call walks, even when they take 4 steps!)

They called several marginal walks at the beginning of dribbles against Syracuse but missed at least one multi-step walk at the end of a drive.

Agree.

They also called a walk when a Syracuse player got a rebound but fell down

Technically that's a walk, but it's called a lot less often when a player just drops to the floor like today
