Twidale 3 with 14 seconds left! Looks like we are about to get our 22nd win of the season.

Amazing job, Bears.

Great road win. Michelle and three-point shooting are what make us special. They were both there in this one.

Lulu's dagger was clearly the most important play of the game. And Io's shooting, Kayla's composure and Jayda's defense were critically important. (I don't really want to talk about Marta because she did not have a good game)

But Michelle won this game. She was dominant inside in the second half and she is so in control when she needs to be.

Phew.

Clinched a winning record in conference, quite an accomplishment in a very deep and talented ACC. Let's beat Tech on Sunday (and the other Tech next Thursday).

best charmin adjustment of the season:

the bears are NOT playing fast which often leads to unforced turnovers, just surgically moving the ball with quick passing & wide open 3 point shooting

now a 17 point lead!!

and that's just good coaching

slowing it down/taking our time (we are not cocaine bears)#
the bears lack the depth late in the season to play fast paced & the starters are prone to turnovers when playing fast

this team will match up well against nationally ranked teams by slowing the game down & surgically moving the ball for open 3 pointers & michelle/marta point blank shots around the basket

slow it ******* down!!

Nice win.

Kept TOs down, hit 3s and rebounded.

Michelle crushed it when she was on the floor, evidently.

Leaned on the starters again but not surprised. Marta struggled to score but looks like she helped out in other areas.

I don't have the ESPN streaming subscription so going by the play-by-play and box score from the ESPN website.

Now...can the Bears do it again against Va Tech? A team they're trying to keep ahead of in the conference standings?

Go Bears!

Notes from scoresheet
13 turnovers for the game! VA had 10 but Cal has 11 points off VA turnovers while VA only got 10 off the 13 Cal turnovers.
Cal outrebounded VA 42-31 and 14-6 on offensive rebounds.
Virginia actually outshot Cal 42% - 40% - BUT Cal had 13-30 on threes for 43% and VA only was 8-24 (and there's a five point swing!)
As sort of expected, especially with Onyiah in foul trouble, VA outscored Cal 28-22 in the paint.

Cal was credited with 20 assists on 25 made baskets!

Also Johnson was as advertised 24 points on 8-15 shooting, 2-4 on threes, 6-6 from free throw line, 5 assists and 7 rebounds.
Cal held VA's big Lattimore to 3-11 shooting - and only 4 rebounds.

I kept checking the box score for rebounds and assists; as long as Cal was ahead in those categories, I was fairly confident.

Nice guys, the commentators. Trying their damnedest to boost VA's credentials, but courteous about Cal's virtues as well.

I agree. Often the acc commentary feels like they don't know or care about Cal/stanfurd (yet), tonight felt more even handed.

Acutually enjoyed their play by play announcing......Yes, they were very positive speaking about the BEARS. They were on the Ball re: Cal's attributes, but aware of Turnovers and foul problems for Michelle. One of them spoke to Michelle, and then noted how she played the drums in the stands earlier in the day. Did I hear that correctly? They were very complimentary about Michelle as a student athlete. This team gets the W once again, and a bye in the ACC tournament per the nice guys! It was such fun to see the Splash Sisters sinking 3's. Watched the game on ACCNX. It's worth paying $11.99/months for ESPN Plus.(can cancel at any time) Two minutes left :Virginia Tech 61 and Stanford 59. Stanford has trailed......

Looking ahead...

The stat tracker from the Cal website does have minutes played.

Interesting to note Kayla played 29 minutes - hopefully she'll be fresher against Va Tech. Io played the whole game; Lulu and Marta played 36 each.

Michelle played 24 minutes, so if she can stay out of foul trouble against Va Tech, she should have fresher legs.

Something to watch will be Cal's 3-point shooting percentage and number of attempts against Va Tech. You'd think the legs would be heavy for the Io, Lulu and Marta. However, I think these players are resilient - it's all about hydration and getting their rest. Maybe rest them in 2-3 minutes stretches and timing those breaks around mandatory time outs.

Jayda played 21 minutes but no other Bear was above 6 minutes.

Concerning...but it's the reality.

Grind out a victory, Bears!

and Stanford just tied the game against VA Tech with 27 seconds left. Shoot. Take them to overtime and tire them out.

VA Tech's struggling with the Stanford pressure the same way we did.

Tech's Wenzel with back to back errors - on an inbound turnover. Then playing for last shot - pushes Furd off and gets called for offensive foul. But Tech defends well and game goes to overtime.

Box score from Va Tech website shows Va Tech starters are playing 39, 38, 38, 33 and 33 minutes each...with 2:20 left in OT.

I guess there goes any excuse for fatigue - the only caveat that Cal had to travel. However, after rest I think this game starts on equal footing.

Not matter who wins tonight, Va Tech had to go OT.
