This was a fantastic effort.

The defense was intense for pretty much the entire game.

Yes, there were some careless TOs but Cal didn't let GT go on a sustained run to where a comeback looked possible. !6 total TOs for Cal is tolerable...for the most part given what we've seen this season!

GT had 6 or 7 O Boards in the 1st half - they finished with 9. So Cal cleaned that up and took away one of GT's strengths.

Michelle was simply a beast. Quite frankly she should be - the matchups were in her favor tonight. After subpar performances a sign of the will to succeed is a better effort the next chance you get...and Michelle went above and beyond that. Super proud of her effort tonight.

Marta seemed to be more under control tonight - a good thing. She broke the paint frequently and had two hockey assists on Io 3s where the ball went to Jayda in the corner who whipped it to Io for wing 3s. I cannot believe why GT would leave Io...EVER. I would have stayed with Io and dare Jayda to shoot or drive it.

Jayda had her typical Andre Iguodala type game...just does those little things that lead to winning. Gabby was solid too.

Sunday will be special. Seems like this season flew by and this was such a fun year.

Go Bears!

G Tech ad four players on their press at midcourt so Marta could throw over the top to a wide open Lulu. One defender and two scorers (Michele underneath).

Michelle was amazing but I thought Lulu also played really well. If she returns with as much improvement as we've seen between last season and this then look out!

Truth (wasn't trying to dwell on negative - just still slightly worrying about it as a NET in the 40s gives NCAA a reason to shaft the Bears)

As much as we complain about Marta's turnovers, we should really take a step back and realize that against a full court press, having a "4" on the court who can be used in the backcourt is a bit of a luxury. It lead to many baskets. I thought she did a great job last night, her 3 turnovers were actually more on the flukey side for this game.

The amazing stat of the game was Cal's offense shared the ball and ended up with 19 assists. These nineteen assists included none (zero) from Kayla Williams, our PG. Lulu Twidale led the way w/ 6 assists, Marta Suarez and Jayda Noble both contributed six and Ioanna Krimili added three more. Super unselfish players make up this special team.

I was wrong again tonight. The defense showed up and offense continued its recent hot streak. Bears dominated the boards, too. Cal is 15-1 at home this season. GO BEARS!

Have to agree. One was stepping out of bounds while driving the baseline and another was trying to gather a loose ball and fumbled it out of bounds in front of the Cal bench - not sure if that one counted as her TO?

In the end, I thought Cal handled the press effectively even when it wasn't pretty at times.

Kayla only played 24 minutes. At the chalk talk it was disclosed that some of the Bears were a bit under the weather - I'd bet Kayla was one of them?

The team as a whole has been unselfish all season - another trait of their togetherness. And another reason why they are so enjoyable to watch.

mbBear, S71 does a nice job each game of previewing our upcoming opponent.
But please don't tell him that he puts his "ass on the line" with his predictions. First of all, in almost every game his prediction is very similiar to the actual betting line, (GTech was favored last night.) Secondly, the only person that takes S71's predictions seriously is - S71. You're just adding fuel to the fire.

If you don't think that it's difficult to predict Cal is going to lose at home, you're crazy. Fortunately, I was wrong in this case. S71, honestly I'm not trying to take "cheap shots" at you.

What I'm trying to point out (at least on my own behalf) is, you give a lot of great information which I really appreciate. But when you make your prediction on the outcome, I know for sure that you care more about whether you get it right than I do. If you review my posts you will notice that I never come at you when you miss. Maybe someone else here does but not me. Also I never praise you when you get it right either. Either way, it just doesn't matter to me, because you leave the impression that your prediction is more about yourself than anything else. And I have a strong hunch that others feel the same. That's all there is to it, nothing more, nothing less.

Well-if you speak for the rest of the Cal fans then I will step down right now. If your opinion is what everyone feels after 30 game previews, then i will resign right now. S71, honestly, you're mixing me up with other posters and I don't think you're even understanding my posts.

I just got through telling you that I appreciate the information you give us. I never asked you to "step down."
I never said you were too pessimistic (that was someone else). And it's not that you take yourself too seriously, you just take your predictions too seriously, that's all I meant to say. I can only hope that you continue the pregame posts because they are very informative and I enjoy reading them. And it's fun that you make a prediction, but as far as that goes, I for one don't take the result of your prediction seriously, and it might be a good idea if you didn't take it so seriously either. That's all I'm saying. Really.

I find S71's previews informative because the key players from the other team are identified, along with their stats.

Who are the threats from 3? What is the size comparison? What players did they get from the portal and from where?

All this has value to me and I note who are the threats.

If there's a coach chalk talk, I'll listen in for the key points and see if they equate to the preview.

And if S71 is willing to do the analysis, I appreciate that. Makes it so I don't have to. Or, if there's a point made that I either question or piques my interest, I might do a little more digging for my own knowledge or add here in this forum.

It's fine to have differing opinions but when it gets personal (i.e. - "you don't know what you're talking about" or "that's dumb") it does get tiring. It's fine to have back and forth but I'd be more inclined to ask where the opinion was formed and why rather than "that's dumb".

This is a forum where the back and forth gives us Cal women basketball fans an outlet and I like to have fun with it.

And I think S71 adds value to this forum.

Marta has too many turnovers, but she has improved her passing and since teams often double her it's been resulting in points.

But I've said all season that she's a real weapon for us as she often is a tough match up for teams and add a completely different dimension. She also is a key defender and rebounder for us.

We are very fortunate to have her and hopefully she gets an extra year and can return next season

yes - Ass on the Line is a massive overstatement for the activity of making prediction on an anonymous fan web site. Investing $1 mill in women's basketball NIL is putting your ass on the line, guessing the score of a basketball game is a whimsical activity.

First of all, I have been critical of him on more than one occasion. Secondly, "ass on the line" is a figure of speech-he isn't running into a burning building to save anyone...you go say in public who you think is going to win in sports, that takes some guts, that's all I am saying...even if you are following the betting line.
"Predictions seriously"....I will say for me, I don't take much of anything here "seriously"...
I don't need gatekeeping, but thanks for your efforts...
yes - Ass on the Line is a massive overstatement for the activity of making prediction on an anonymous fan web site. Investing $1 mill in women's basketball NIL is putting your ass on the line, guessing the score of a basketball game is a whimsical activity.
Okay, if you want to call me out on this: No, first responders put their "ass on the line." You invest $1 million into NIL because you can, and you wake up to the next day...or in the case of endowing a coach of a certain woman's sport for a million dollars, it brings you close to a sport that has meant a lot to you ever since your college days....

Damn, I was all set to put my ass on the line. First I was going to predict the score of tomorrow's game against Miami. When I found out that doing that didn't qualify, my next decision was to donate $1million to the Cal WBB program. Again not good enough. Since I am too old and don't have the courage to be a first responder, maybe just continuing to participate on the "Bear Insider" forum qualifies. It's the best I can do!

GO BEARS!
You put your ass on the line each week making a prediction...if it was easy, gambling wouldn't exist. So "wrong" is probably a little harder on yourself than it needs to be..."off?"
