interesting that this highlight shows her at Mississippi State playing LSU, and then LSU picking her up in the Transfer Portal the next season. LSU coach must have saw something when they played against her.

In an interview she said Coach Mulkey told her she wanted her to be their defensive stopper

My friend who watched a bit of Sheppard at Lsu said she's a scrappy high motor player.
that's why I compared her to Kayla Williams

Kayla was a huge part of our team and last season's team is a perfect example of how you need a minimum of two PGs on your roster. Last season we had two 5th year senior PGs.

Compare that to potentially having 2 freshmen PGs this upcoming season

That's why I'm hoping Sheppard can play some PG, even though she doesn't have a ton of PT overall, and not sure what position she played in those minutes

She sounds a lot more like a Jayda Noble than a Kayla Williams type to me. If she plays defense anything close to the way Jayda did, it will be a big plus for us.

Sheppard can handle and drive better than Noble

Noble can defend a big. Sheppard probably can't

But we will see

I really like this pickup

Granted, my thoughts are based on this short video offering a very small sample size.

She has an athleticism that was missing from a lot of our players last season. I saw our team as skilled in certain areas, but slow and plodding in general, save for a few exceptions. This was highlighted in matchups against more athletic teams where we seemed to get overwhelmed. Of course the talent discrepancies and depth or lack there of were some of main factors, but I like the added "forceful agility" in this transfer.

True, but we also beat some very athletic ACC teams at home including NC State and Florida State, etc....I think it was our ability from the 3, good D, and comfort on the home court that gave us those great wins.

I'll like this quote:

Quote:

"I'm excited to play for Charmin because she fought hard to get her program to where she wants it and I get to be a part of something special this upcoming year," Sheppard said.

Glad to see the program being promoted as a place one can contribute...make a difference.

I think it can't be said enough as an X factor, that, be it in practice, or obviously in games, she has faced high level players recently on a regular basis...

Not discrediting how great Thomas was and Morris will be- it'll be nice to get another highly rated taller point guard. Generally Cal misses out on all the tall high rated point guards each year to the elite schools. A squad of all 5 players being taller is better than a squad of short players when competing against the top tier teams.

Not sure how you are selling minutes to a "highly rated" PG at this point in the process..... you have some combo guards, and you hope some of them can handle the few minutes Puff isn't playing.
I get the height concern, but again, the best player in the state of California, a 5 star , is coming to Cal... you have to hope she is over 30 minutes a game..

A bit subjective question: is she one of the most decorated recruits in Cal women's hoop history, or at least recent history?

There've only been 7 players in the state of California to ever achieve this (in 41 years). Puff is one of them.

Do with that information what you will.
