6'1 Forward Joyce Isime Etute (from Luxembourg with Nigerian background, as well) released her top 7 college choices listed below. Back in June, it was announced she reclassified to c/o 2026 and will be going to powerhouse IMG Academy in Florida for that final year of prep hoops.

Louisville
Virginia Tech
North Carolina
Texas
Cal
Indiana
UCLA

Wow! Four of the seven schools from the ACC!

Indiana has been doing well lately with international players. They got a 2026 commitment earlier this year from Zoe Jackson, a 6'4 post player from Australia. We had offered Zoe Jackson as well and we were among her 6 finalists (as per Raoul).

This 2026 post prospect looks like exactly what the doctor ordered. However, four nationally ranked powers (Texas, UNC, UCLA & Louisville) would seem tough to beat here.

And you call yourself a Cal WBB fan. lol. Good grief.

You don't know what is going on behind the scenes. I have trust in Coach Smith and Coach Jenny Huth (recruiting coordinator) to assemble a very good recruiting class for 2026.

Maybe up your donation to Cal WBB to help us compete for the top players.

just worry about your own self. My loyalty is only to Cal ( I don't even want any WNBA pros coming to our Valkyries who rejected coming to Cal). I trust and hope the best for our coaches and team but just facing reality. Smith is a great coach and doing her best but Cal for some reason isn't able to land any of the top elite players despite how well they did this last year.

And you don't know my financial situation to ask me to donate. Not all of us who graduated from Cal have means to do so.

At some level, every American college player rejected Cal.

Cal is just hard to recruit to in this era. They have good years now and again, but in terms of basketball only, why would an elite recruit choose Cal over UCLA, USC, South Carolina, Iowa or any of the other powers? What would be the draw?

I'm not blaming anyone or trying to be negative, but I think being realistic is important as well. Recruiting is selling, and when the product falls a little short of the competition, then the sales job gets a lot harder.

NIL has also changed everything. A very good player can now not only get a school's initial NIL payment, but can also get additional endorsement money on top of that that is supposedly "non-recruitment-related". And the potential for those additional endorsement opportunities increases when you are at a program that is winning and getting national tv exposure. This trend is showing up for both high school recruiting and portal transfers. And In the meantime, our program's financial losses have been mounting every year. So I'm not sure where it finally plays out.

There is real truth in this but it is too binary. Some teams do move in and out of top echelon. A lot of factors figure into a player's decision. Critical among them is how they feel about the coaching staff. They can also be influenced by current players and the team culture. A huge factor can be playing time, will I sit on the bench at UConn or start for Cal. The university itself can be a draw both the geographic area and academics offered. These can be a big plus for Cal, Proximity to home might fsctor in or connections to the team or school through friends or relations. Of course in today's world money and NIL are important and in that respect Cal has advantages and disadvantages. Winning culture is one of the most important factors, success breeds success. If we can have a run of seasons like last year it would be a huge step. The problems in recruiting for Cal are there and very real but not insurmountable.
