One thing that needs to change is for Lola to look for more shots on offense. Corner three's are great when they are open. But she went 25 minutes tonight and took only one shot. We don't have enough talent around her to play four on five.

Puff Morris cannot play PG at this level. She is too slow, and Pacific has outscored Cal 8-0, mostly at the expense of Morris inability to direct the offense. Cal was outplayed 10-0 to finish the half and tie up the game, 24-24. Puff has 5 TOs.
I thought the Tigers would be the slowest team that the Bears would face, averaging 24 TOs per game. I was wrong. UOP only has 7 while Cal has committed 15 turnovers at intermission. The entry passes to the three post players have been turnovers almost every time. Langarita is immobile and cannot jump to catch the passes. The TOs go to the guards, but she cannot perform adequately. None of the posts step out to meet the pass.
The Bears appear to be the worst shooting team that I have witnessed in Berkeley. Taylor Barnes is missing close in shots and layups, converting only 2 of 8 shots. She has the only three. Cal again is 1 for 8 (12.5%) from deep.
Sakima Walker cannot stay of the floor. She might be the next Michelle Onyiah.

My guess is you didn't watch the first two games of the season and your lineup is based on last night's game only. Taylor Barnes will be (and should be) starting all season.

Calm down everybody.
There's a long way to go in this season.
These Bears are still getting "acquainted". And Charmin and her staff are still figuring out who they have and what roles they can play in games. And what combinations work best. That's why they have pre-conference games.
This is not last season's team. One returning starter. Seven new players. Four freshmen. Three who were back-ups at top programs. More depth. Better defense. Tenacious and aggressive. Yes, and a little sloppy at times. Growing pains.
Support them. On their good days and bad days. They need us.
Maybe Lulu's breakout scoring game last night is a hint of what's to come.
Go Bears!!!

Exactly. Give them time to become a team. You have to remember this is a new era....this team (and many others) are basically starting out from square one in terms of playing together...new players, personalities and yes, talents. I appreciated last night how they hung in there and fought to win the game. I said previously that Pacific was always tough....in fact last season, they nearly beat our Bears at their home. Pacific led after the first quarter and aside from the 2nd, played us even. I was at that game. Cal won 74-66 in the end, but it wasn't a blowout and the team had to fight back to win. Lulu was 2-9 in that game with only 1 3 pointer.... Here's the boxscore: https://calbears.com/sports/womens-basketball/stats/2024-25/pacific/boxscore/36709
Also, being hyper-critical of talented freshmen who are new to D1 college ball is just plain ridiculous and uncalled for. Spare me the criticism....you aren't really a fan if you find it so easy to determine a player's abilities after watching a couple games. I can think of any number of young newbies over the years at Cal who took time to blossom...Find another team to root for if you can't be supportive of allowing them to grow.

I've watched all three games. I like Barnes as 6th man, but no problem with her starting--but she has seemed slow to react, ball sticks with her, and she fumbles it a lot. A confident and assertive Barnes is a starter. I like Donez starting for defensive aggression at the opening of the game, and hopefully a couple threes.

Best statement I've read on this board in a very long time.
