Bears are terrible at transition D.
They've been beaten down the court multiple times.

A good part of that is just turning the ball over too many times.

Exactly, as represented by Points off of turnovers.

Turnovers. Giving up good shots in the flow for that extra pass defenses seems to be ready for.

Inconsistent focus. At moments they look like a top 25 team. A play later they look lost. Have to play every minute; have to better execute team defense too.

Cal is top third of nation, better than average; their NET ranking seems accurate.

Play hard every game through the Conference Tournament and aim for the big NCAA Tournament -- but an NIT Trophy would not be a bad way to finish 2025-26. Gotta win games either way.

Happy New Year, let's beat Duke.

Fatigue's gonna happen with a 7 player rotation. Grace McCallop was highly touted coming in. Don't think we've done a good job of preparing her this season. Especially when Lola's offensive game is extremely limited. This one is on Charmin.

Missing Puff required Charmin to use Mjracle at point and Lola as her back-up these last two games.

How would you have prepared Grace this season? Too many tight games this season, you go for the more experienced player off the bench.

Grace has had some playing time and will get more as the season continues.

I think that was also said about Zhara King last year. But it never happened. You develop players by putting them on the court. And if you don't, you start all over again next year after they transfer.

Same with Naya. Put her on the court, and, amazingly, she scores. Keep her on the bench, and she doesn't.

Last season I thought Zahra looked kinda lost. But this season she's starting for SMU and is their 2nd leading scorer, shooting .514 overall and .471 on threes. Also has 19 assists, 33 turnovers, and 22 steals.

She is learning and developing at SMU now that she is getting the opportunity to play. Today she had 21 points and 5 steals in a loss to Georgia Tech. Those numbers would have looked good for us today against NCSU. She is now more a scorer than a playmaker, but that may come along with more game experience. Her shooting percentage is now a lot higher than Lulu's.

Of course Mjracle has been injured. Haven't you been to any of the games. She hurt her leg.

So, whose minutes would you have reduced to get Zahra more playing time last season?

Kayla Williams
Lulu
Ioanna Krimili
Jayda Noble

Take your pick. A coach has to think about more than one season at a time. I think Charmin was desperate to make the NCAA's after a six-year drought and rolled the dice on a six player line-up when we could have easily gone eight deep. If you were King, would you have stayed?

Yes, because this season offered plenty of opportunities. Starting line-up was wide open! And she would have had another offseason to develop her skills.

Same thing is happening to McCallop this year. She came here expecting to play and be developed. But there is no commitment to that. She also doesn't get a chance to develop her full NIL potential by sitting on the bench,

players only have 4 years of eligibility, it's up to the coach to get buy in re: a development plan otherwise it's off to the transfer portal which has been a real problem during the smith era of mediocrity (other than last season) in berkeley
