The acc situation will soon be the death of Bay Area college sports, not that such a thing as college sports even exists.

Do the layoffs include Jay & Jenny? The DJ with a heavy hand on the volume control?

"Revenue generation" I get, but what does "authentic storytelling" mean in this context?

As a "paying customer", you can certainly speak to the DJs (one female and one male seem to alternate games) about the volume. Be respectful. They work for Cal. And, essentially, us.

But we need their presence in order to attract more students and young adults to games. It's all about the "vibe".

If the "vibe" is a real thing, it's a pretty sad commentary about students and young adults. The need to have every second of non-playing time filled with continuous music, the need for a scoreboard to tell people when to "get loud", is another indication that people growing up these days can't think for themselves. They need automated technology to do it for them instead.

My comments weren't meant to start a whole dissection of what's going on with today's youth/young adults. I merely meant that the DJ's music adds to the atmosphere in Haas. I rather enjoy it myself and I'm no kid. lol.

By the way, those scoreboard "encouragements" are found throughout NFL, NBA and MLB stadiums too.

Since joining the league, the major(for lack of a better word)Cal sports have had the best/most TV exposure ever. Even some of the Olympic sports have been on TV.
I hated the Pac12 break up. But $C and UCLA aren't magically waking up and deciding they need to be in a league with Cal. Me personally, I don't have an interest in Cal playing the secondary Western schools in any sport.

I guess as a fellow "I'm no kid" we have different tastes. I get music during the dead spots, but it seems like at a game we are hearing the music or some variation of noise every second that the game isn't being played.

And yes "encouragements" are found at everywhere now. The first time I can really remember experiencing full "encouragment" was 25 years ago at a WCW wrestling event. At the time, it didn't bother me because after all, wrestling was more "entertainment" than an actual sport. But little by little it made its way into everything to the point where I found it more annoying than entertaining. I guess it's just a senior citizen thing for me, but I prefer my crowd noise spontaneous and real, not processed.

I prefer either the band or a few moments of peace and quiet, but that's just the preference of an old man. What I can't take is painful volume levels and I shouldn't have to bring earmuffs to the games.

I'd love to see a team in some sport somewhere have a throwback day in which there is no, or at least limited music and promotions during breaks in play. Let people talk to each other. Would fans riot because there was no music blaring or diversions such as name that tune or musical chairs? Maybe people would find that they like it. Worth a try if anyone is brave enough to try it.

It's the "Get Loud!" thing that infuriates me. Loud should be us, the fans, not the faux music that's amped up then.

As a grammarian I'm always bothered by: "make some noise." What's the word "some" doing in that sentence? Shouldn't "make noise" be sufficient? (Not that we should need to be told.)

Maybe in this context "some" is an intensifier, as in "That's some pig!" from Charlotte's Web.

I too would rather not be told.

"give me a C, give me a A…"?

Unforgivable for a student at the University of California. Then again I had a colleague who had an advanced degree from Cal and always spelled a lot as one word and constantly said "anyways."
