I think multiple threads can be a pain so wanted to make a thread for any news related to 2015 recruiting. Cal got off to a great start by landing 6'4 Kristine Anigwe (ASGR #41). Her HS team Desert Vista is considered to be the top team in the state after Courtney Ekmark (Uconn) announced she would not participate in her senior year for St. Mary's.

Here is Anigwe's maxpreps stats so you can follow her progress this season

http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kristine-anigwe/n-7j4_TmEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/girls-basketball-stats.htm

We know Cal has offered Asha Thomas from BOD. Any other main targets? Feel free to post any news or articles relating to 2015 recruiting here.

Go Bears!

Sorry but St Mary's was done with or without Ekmark!

True! St. Mary's did lose a ton of talent.

3 early blowouts for Anigwe's HS team and good numbers put up.... won't look to much into that judging by the scores. Could be state POY with Ekmark not playing this season.

Also... Carondelet beat bishop O'Dowd 89-80 the other night. My favorite player Natalie Romeo (Nebraska) put up 28. Cal recruiting target Asha Thomas had 25 points. Go Bears

St. Mary's of Berkeley. Good doubleheader that day. Cal vs Pacific in the afternoon and the high school game at night.

Did you go to the Carondolet game. Wonder how the BOD freshmen did.

Did not attend. Plan to attend a few SMB games this season.

I believe it was mentioned Cal is recruiting Kennedy Burke. Wonder if we are going after Tarea Green from Oregon, Brijanee Moore, or Asia Robertson?

wow, I like this espn evaluation...

PBR Super 64-July 2013: Explosive interior defender with superb timing, shot-blocking ability; wingspan and length combined with athleticism enhances value; outstanding mobility in uptempo, pressure game; emerging offensive game completes the package. (Olson)

Why would we go after Thomas instead of Robertson? Seems it should be other way around.

IMO Thomas is a better all-around player... I think most would agree.

To go off that... Thomas is a great PG. What position would Robertson play in college. SG? I don't think she is a point. Just not sure where she fits in. Will be a great get for some school, just not sure she will fit with Cal already having Green and Jefflo who can play the 2 guard

have you seen them both play. I personally like both but think Thomas is a better player. If you have seen them play, then why do you like Robertson better?

Most ratings services have Thomas rated better. In Norcal Prep they rate Thomas first but I am basing my view on what I personally saw.

Yeah, Robertson is a good player but Thomas is a little better in most aspects of the game.

these observations would be more productive if gpa information was provided

90% of the recruits mentioned on these boards for basketball & football are not academically qualified for cal

just because you like a player's playing skills doesn't mean that the lindsey & the coaching staff believe the recruit can balance the rigors of cal classroom work & basketball

Ok, well since we don't have access to these things guess we can just speculate for fun. That is what fans do.

If these threads aren't productive enough for you I apologize.

On a side note, Anigwe's HS team Desert Vista is now 5-0 on the season winning the first 5 games by a average of 39 points. Uconn like margins!

Asha defended Kelli Hayes one-on-one at Mitty. She also plays within the flow of the offense (as opposed to PG Ariel Bostick who was a gunner). Asia Robertson is two inches taller and was the first sub off of the bench. I wonder who will be the Dragon's point guard this season: Thomas or Robertson? I would guess Thomas. Thomas has a nice pull-up jumpshot, too.

GO BEARS!

Gotta wonder if Hannah Huffman will transfer after this season. Still only getting garbage time averaging 1.4 ppg. ND starts a freshman at PG and sophomore guard Jewell Loyd is their leading scorer. They lose McBride to graduation, but Mabrey another soph, is getting double Huffman's minutes and averaging double digit scoring.

She could help us as she would become eligible after Boyd graduates but we're not really even an obvious choice since Jefflo and HBA are performing well and with our '14 recruiting class. Her other choice was UCLA and she definitely wouldn't get much PT there.

Oderah Chidom, on the other hand, just earned her first start for Duke after a double double in the last game and with Haley Peters out. As a starter she only had 7 points but ripped down 14 rebounds. She could be an All-American eventually.

I'm still crying about missing on her. Imagine Courtney and Oderah together for four years.

since her freshman year in high school. But she is not a shooter. She was a scorer. And quite a body. Very strong. Wonder if she has added weight.

I think I read her dad went to Notre Dame. So, it could mean she won't have much of a basketball career there but a diploma. Notre Dame is a good school so we can't strut our stuff about a cal diploma. On the other hand, if she wants a second basketball chance then who knows.

Yeah, it stings because we were on her pretty early and offered her on the spot when Lindsay first met her IIRC, while some others didn't catch on til later while focusing on the Oregon girls and Kendall Cooper. Her HG ranking was only #32 then #25 before jumping to #10 and Blue Star actually had her ranked in the 70's while Full Court had her at #5 in the end, and I have a feeling she could end up drafted at #4 or #5 when she graduates. But it seems she wanted to leave home and perhaps get a private education and Cal just didn't seem as glamorous. Plus, she and Kendall Cooper were closer than she and her O'Dowd teammates/Waters, so it didn't help that Cooper never really considered Cal. It looks like Chidom will see plenty of action this year and permanently start next year, while Cooper will not see quite as much time until Liz Williams has graduated and she is a junior.

Cal recruiting Target PG Asha Thomas (O'Dowd) will face off tomorrow against Green and Cowling (St. Mary's-Berkeley). That should be a great game.

after going to the UC-Pacific game.

I called St. Mary's campus today and they don't sell advanced tickets. But it might sell out. Should get there early. Are you going calfanatic ?

Don't think so. Will be going to the UOP game than straight home (maybe even leave early) to catch the volleyball gam against Wisconsin. Not sure if I will make it back out after that. Hoping to see TWO Cal wins today!

http://www.prep2prep.com/feature.aspx?ArticleID=2300

I don't know if this is ok to link or not. I was given this article on a girl's bball message board on another website. Niajai Craig has evidently transferred to Pinewood. She's not listed on their roster yet and is not playing...I would guess that it's effective @ mid-year. Pinewood has always lacked a post player that can rebound...They are a guard-oriented team. Pinewood is als undefeated early. Archbishop Mitty is receiving a junior transfer (6-2 post), Conner Bennett, who will be eligible in January.

Saint Ignatius defeated Eastside Prep easily, 56-39, last night. Archbishop Mitty beat Modesto Christian, 51-42. Kelli Hayes led the way w/ 24 points. Both Eastside Prep & Mitty are 2-2 (.500) but couldn't have played a tougher schedule.

From another thread:

annarborbear;842242562 said:

Thought the big news of the night was Cowling. She is quite a bit more aggressive than last year, and starting to take her game to another level. Great leaper, defender, runner and finisher on the break, and now starting to shoot more often and well, with a super-looking jump shot. I think her final year national ranking could go higher.

What position is Cowling playing? I presume we recruited her as a wing, but we might be a little thin at forward and occasionally need her there.

Too bad we didn't get UOP's Kendall Kenyon -- what a player! We must have seen her since she played with Afure. Why was she underrated coming out of high school? Any more like her in 2014?

Have you seen her play?

She would be a big wing. But might even defend the post. I would say she is stronger than Courtney.

As I have said before, Kendall is an exception. Everybody is aware of St. Mary's players. She just wasn't that impressive till her senior year. She wasn't very strong and St. Mary's really doesn't make use of a center very well. Last year's team listed their roster as 10 guards and one forward.

I went back and looked at Norcal Preps ratings the year she played. And she signed so late they don't even have a college listed.

2015 Wish List:

Ashley Hearn, 6'3"/6'4", Texas, ranked #18 PN, #27 HG, #29 BS, #30 FC, #13 ASGR

Personality-wise, she seems like she would fit in.

I may have mentioned this before, but Prospects' #40 Sam Trammel at 6'2" is probably another to keep an eye on. IIRC, her old teammate c/o 2012 Jackie Johnson 6'1" was ranked #100 and we tried to get in on her late (as did UCLA) but she stayed with the Gophers. So at least we have some familiarity with the coaches?

But Hearn sounds like she's more advanced already and even more upside.

I have concerns about Anigwe's athleticism due to her Track & Field marks, but perhaps she just needs conditioning.

Another 2015 prospect who looks interesting to me is Beatrice Mompremier from Florida. I've seen her height listed from 6'3" to 6'5", and she's ranked by HoopGurlz and Prospects Nation.

One site lists her high school as Mater Academy in Hialeah, which seems like a high-grade academic charter school.
http://matermiddlehigh.org/about/history.jsp
Other sites say she's at Miami Senior High School.

She seems to be a high-potential player who hasn't been playing too long.
http://miamisuns.org/headlines/mompremier-taking-huge-steps/

Of all the comments the most intriguing to me was from ESPN:
"... an emerging nasty disposition in the paint intimidates opponents ..."

One more tall 2015 prospect is 6'5" Bri Berryman from Ohio. She was invited to the 2013 USA Basketball Women's U16 National Team trials, but didn't make the team. One who did is 6'9" (!) Nancy Mulkey from Texas.

Of course I have no clue who might be interested in Cal, either academically or athletically.

Berryman has a 4.0 or so. I believe interest from Stanford. She looks very slender though.

You can see glimpses of Tarea Green in this video:

She looks a legit 6'4" and strong. But slow. Maybe comparable to Brenna Heater. She seems to have nice footwork. I read she's putting up good numbers this HS and what makes her even more intriguing is that she has a younger sister at 6'2", a sophomore who is supposed to be pretty good.

Otiona Gildon 6'1" from WA is #57 by hoopgurlz.

The best options for 2015 bigs are from Texas for the most part. Namely McCowan and DeGrate as posts and Ashley Hearn at forward.

Just dawned upon me that once Boyd's class graduates we (currently) only have seven players

2013
Range
Jefflo
HBA
Waters

2014
Green
Cowling

2015
Anigwe

2015 is going to be a big class!! Well.. hopefully. Since we probably wanted to sign 5 this November. Lots of opportunity for Freshman to come in and contribute immediately.
