Thought I start a thread to post transfers. I think there is one on the guys site. Per Chris Roemer, Deanna Calhoun of U$C 6-3 is leaving the school. The Albany high graduate is looking to stay on the West Coast. She will have 2 years of eligibility left. Looks like she only avg 5 minutes last year..but hey you can't teach height!

I will say I heard an interesting story, that I have yet been able to confirm coming out of USC.
I heard this unnamed player was "supposedly" released from the school. Now USC announced on June 23rd there will be 4 year Scholarships for Football and MBB and WBB, effective 7/1/14. I guess the player was released prior to the 7/1/14 date.
So between 6/23 and 6/30 did the Trojans clean house?

She might be available immediately, as my understanding is that USC released her, she did not ask for a transfer.

There's a player than did not appear to come all of the way back from a torn ACL. She did get 5 rebounds against us last year, and looked o.k. in those minutes. So on a large roster, there could be room. However, she may also want to go someplace where she can get greater court time.

She would probably be a good fit with a Big West or West Coast Conference team.

I always liked Calhoun and was disappointed when she went to SC. At Albany, she had a decent mid-range game especially along the baseline. If she was released and could play this year she would be the solo member of our junior class. And she did her club ball with the Cal Ballaz who have some nice players coming up the next few years. Good to keep that connection active.

Do you think the fact that her brother an excellent line backer from up here who originally committed to USC but switched to ASU could have affected this release. I can't imagine releasing her if her brother went to USC.

I hate to think schools do that stuff, but I wouldnt be shocked if they do.
My understanding is USC told at least two players that they might be better to leave and look for a school that they would be a better fit at. I heard this in late May or early June. I wont say who the other name is. I heard both players wanted to stay at USC. I was a bit surprised that I hadn't heard another word about the players until after the USC announcement about 4 year scholarships on June 23rd. So as far as I can figure somewhere between June 23rd and June 30th Calhoun was let go, right before July 1st, when the four year scholarship policy took effect. As far as I know the 2nd player is still at USC.

I find this appalling. By spring, USC would have known her brother was not coming. I'm not saying it was revenge but I couldn't imagine they would release her if he did come to USC.

Of course very possible with other incoming Posts Calhoun asked for her release so she could transfer to a school where she would play. IMO that's far for likely

Sounds like a good deal all around. Would everyone who would rather go to college in South Central than Hawaii, please raise their hands!

per Roemer, Deanna has officially signed with UoH and is eligible to play immediately. Looking on their website of their roster, found out that former Cal de-commit Shawna-Lei Kuehe was granted a 6th year, due to her pregnancy as a sophomore. Hawaii also signed as a walk-on Justice Toailoa, a teammate of Mariya Moore of Salesian.

Kueho, I think and it certainly sounds like she's had a well rounded college career. Not being sarcastic, but it seems she is living a full life. I'm guessing Toailoa is Samoan and may well have family in the islands. A nice place to play and they (both her and Deanna), get a couple of trips back home every year.

On Calhoun:

HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i women's basketball coach Laura Beeman announced the signing of 6-3 post player Deanna Calhoun. Calhoun, a junior transfer from USC, graduated in just three years, so she will be available to play two years starting with the upcoming 2014-15 season.

I didnt want to start a new topic so hear it is.
I have heard from three people, all reliable, Ariya Crook is supposedly no longer on the USC WBB team. Nobody knew the reason. She was still on the USC web site roster as of tonight, but I believe the sources I heard it from..People on the USC Forum were questioning why she didnt appear in any of the Media day photos. Without knowing a reason I hope everything is okay.

Wow. Big news. Very kind of you to express concern for her first and foremost. I hope everything is alright with her as well. In terms of hoops, that's a big blow for USC's season but they brought in 2 decent freshman guards and perhaps Jordan Adams steps up as so far she has been a bust due to injury and perhaps deferring to her teammates to much. Curious about Ariya's situation. The senior class in WCBB this year isn't that strong nor deep so she could have been a relatively high draft pick for the WNBA but we'll have to wait and see now what will happen.

The official confirmation finally came today, and as with the Michael Cooper one-game suspension a couple of years ago, USC's website is proudly trumpeting the embarrassing news on their front page. The delicate wording used is "USC senior guard Ariya Crook has been dismissed from the women's basketball team due to a violation of team and university policy ... She will have the opportunity to finish her academics, but will no longer be involved with this program ..."

Thanks to iminoc for giving us this scoop way ahead of time.

Since school has now started is that "to be disclosed 2nd player" to be released is on the roster?

2nd player remains at USC. How much she plays and why she remained, and the other player is gone to Hawaii, I do not know.

I forgot about Shawna-Lei Kuehe
Looking at her stats, she has been a very good player, even her freshmen year

2 Updates on some transfers
Deanna Calhoun who left USC and transferred to Hawaii is no longer listed on the Roster page for the Rainbow Warriors. I do not know where she is going, or if she gave up basketball.

Utah received a nice outside shooter in Katie Kuklok. She played at USD, left, transferred to UVU, sat the year out, played last year, graduated and now should have two years of eligibility left and can play immediately as a grad student.
Her bio on the Utah site, regarding last year at UVU

led UVU in scoring throughout the season and poured in a team-best 16.0 points per game, which stood fifth in the WAC ... finished last season atop the WAC rankings in 3-point field goal percentage (43.1) (11th in the NCAA), 3-pointers made per game (2.9), and free throw percentage (93.5), which was fourth in the nation ... started 23 times for UVU last season and also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 32.1 minutes per game ... hit 72 3-pointers last season, which established a new UVU school record
From her HS days at Poway HS in San Diego
holds San Diego CIF Section records in career 3-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

She played club ball for both Wiggins Waves and Cal Swish.

Since we are playing Hawaii tonight, I guess we should highlight and update this info. Calhoun's name (as well as the announcement of her signing) were indeed obliterated from the Wahine website. This thread on the Hawaii board implies that an adminstrative or admissions snafu may have been the cause for her failure to enroll, and that Calhoun subsequently enrolled at Eastern Washington. She is not on EWU's roster yet ... perhaps she is not enrolling until the winter quarter in January?

And unfortunately, Kuklok is out for the season at Utah. Another blow for the offense-challenged Utes.

And speaking of Hawaii transfers, anyone looking at the Wahine roster for tonight's game will see their biggest player listed as Connie Morris. She is the former Utah player then known as Rachel Morris who played one season with the Utes before transferring to Salt Lake CC and now Hawaii.

Interesting. Ironic b/c USC's frosh PG Chyanne Butler, like Edwards, transfered out very early this year due to PT. Many say Edwards was overrated as a top 10 player. I don't expect her to have a huge huge impact but their freshman guard Calvert is averaging 11.7 ppg and they have a good 2015 guard ranked top 20-60 coming in, so they should have a solid backcourt then Kristen Simon inside.

I agree on this one. I actually wasn't that impressed with Edwards in AAU and I think Geno as much said the same before she even got there in some taped conversation.

Odd. Why would Geno recruit her? The funny thing is that she was rated pretty high by a few services. #9 Bluestar, #6 ASGR, #8 Prospects.

Not sure of the whole backstory as I have only read snippets ie local girl who looked good to begin with then Geno was overheard that he thought after several viewings of practices that she was lazy!
