Watching that Oregon video there, it looks like a wildly different place. With the country music soundtrack and that rural looking setting, compared to Cal in the Bay area that might as well be a different planet. If someone is into that, they aren't going to be into Cal and vice verse. It just looks so culturally different. I think about the places I would have chosen if Cal hadn't worked out and none of those options were anywhere in Rural, Square State. That sounds like hell to me. Hopefully that sounds like hell to Sabrina too.

Have you ever been to, say, Yosemite? Tahoe? Anywhere other than a city?
Oregon is a great place for the most part. Why do you think they have a sign that says, "Welcome to Oregon - Now Turn Around and Go Back to California..."
That said, an Oregon or Oregon State degree is not the same as a Cal Berkeley degree.

... you sound about 14 years old.

Concordtom, I did not mean to offend you. By stating that there are differences between rural and urban areas, I did not realize that I might be saying something that is offensive. I meant only to illustrate that these two places are in fact very different. My personal preference for urban areas should, perhaps, not have been included, as no one cares about where an anonymous person on the internet chose to go to graduate school. I let my affinity for Cal manifest as a broader bias toward progressive, urban areas that reflect the themes of social justice, equity and progress that were engrained in me at my time at Cal. I thought that would be an acceptable opinion to express on a Cal forum. I was not trying to troll anyone, and I certainly wasn't trying to troll you.

I will say, however, that a 14 year old would also have the capacity to conclude that Cal is located in a much more urban area than these Oregon schools. And, that urban areas attract a different demographic that rural ones. Both of these facts can be verified by exploring the US census data. Nowadays, 14 year olds have access to US census data online at their junior high library. You can explore that data here: http://www.census.gov/

Thank you for your subdued and respectful response - certainly better than mine was.
What I think I meant to convey was a distaste for your post which put down "country music" and "rural setting" and the fact that Oregon is shaped like a square (as if that has anything to do with anything.) I've got nothing wrong with your affinity for progressivism, urban living, social justice, equity and progress.

Any state that is an island is not that bad either. LOL! You know in all of this no one has ever provided any knowledge of what Sabrina is like off court other than what we have seen on the b-ball court.

Does she stay at home a lot? Enjoy the city life? Spend spare time with family?

What appeals to her? At this point we are seeing it from our own perspectives. And yes, I could myself live in one of those Yosemite ranger cabins.

Yes nothing wrong except that that sort of post seems to imply that social justice and equality are exclusive to a certain type of demographic. Kind of a narrow stereotypical attitude seemingly promoted via a collegiate class distinctive intellectual snobbery. It's unfortunate that the American University systems never discarded the class distinctions that were deeply ingrained within the British/European educational systems.

You mean, you don't believe that rural folks who listen to country music in square states are anti-progressive, anti-just, and anti-equitable? Gosh, I was starting to believe that anyone not living in the city were uneducated bigots. And that they would similarly NOT be interested in attending Cal - it's just not their "demographic".

Great question, Golden.

Well, Does anyone here really know the off court Sabrina? Maybe she reads books and goes to the library? Who knows.

The explanations given for the lack of depth are just excuses. How do you not plan in roster building for attrition whether by injury, or the loss of players for personal reasons? This is staffing 1A - and preparation for the worst cases is important for any successful competitive enterprise. Hopefully the lesson is learned for future seasons. In the meantime, the the 8-9 players on the young roster deserve our support and encouragement, they are giving their all ++ as I see it. Opposition strategies and tactics will exploit this situation. Adds an element of excitement to the games.

I agree about the lack of depth as I have expressed repeatedly. AND the two commentators including Chiney remarked how seeing the opposing team bring in another fresh five bodies while your fewer bodied team has to play so many minutes can/does affect you.
