I was visiting MaxPreps and wanted to know when high school bball kicks off its season. The rosters and complete schedules are not up yet but I found these two bigtime games listed. Bishop O'Dowd tripped down to San Jose and defeated AM four years or so ago. The Monarchs have trekked to Stockton but I'm not aware of the Rams coming down here. I'll try to make those two dream matchups...GO BEARS!

Unless they beat themselves, Mitty should win both of those match-ups this season, they are loaded.

As I have mentioned before, the game you should see if Mitty against LaJolla Country day in Stockton on the 16th of January. Better team on a neutral court. Plus Cal prospect Alayshia Styles will be playing.

Right now, it looks like the top three teams in the state are Mitty, Long Beach Poly and LJCD ...

Of course, that's right now.

This 12 deep roster does NOT include any new incoming talent for 2016-2017 season. The Monarchs usually bring up their top three players from the Junior Varsity/Freshmen teams for the postseason playoffs...

Once again I will be at MLK at SMS. Right now I will be happy if the Lady Rams some how pull off winning SJS D1 Sections with the few players they have left on the roster...talk about facing adversity, I would be proud of those ladies for accomplishing that this season, baby steps...Lol.

I can't wait for the season to begin and the playoffs to get here I'm rooting for: SMS, Salesian, BOD, Mitty, Sacramento HS, West Campus

Pinewood returns everyone but their 5-11 post player, Chloe Eackles, in the CCS, too. Eastside College Prep was 100% a frosh-soph team so they should be strong in Div V, again. I believe Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa has one or both of their two tall posts returning but I'm not positive.

Mitty is the favorite but the Valley is where all the talent lays. It isn't close.

Schroeder I agree with you... and I have been hearing the buzz about CN this season but also don't sleep on Salesian & BOD.

CN has a good center who is going to USF next year. They won the state championship in their division last year and have everyone back.

Wonder what's going to happen to USF now that coach Azzi has resigned. Wonder if this opens up an opportunity for coach Smith. Now probably have to make a decision soon.

SMS still have 3 players listed in the top 100 in Prospectnation..all in the 2018 class! They do lose all of their guard with Na'je Murray being injured and Sierra Smith transferring out but knowing Tom he will be having his new team shooting rainbow 3's by the time playoffs starts. They can't be too bad starting with 3 potential all-stars!

Check out the RecordNet article...scroll to the middle of the page. Article left out Raziya Potter also transferred out/back to Kimball HS, hoping everything works out for her too.

Perserverence SMS...perserverence!

No question that the Central Valley has more good teams than any other area in Northern California this year, but Mitty is the best team overall at this point.

St. Mary's of Stockton has been devastated by injuries, transfers and graduation but will still be a force to be reckoned with. Malik McCord says he's got a bunch of young shooters coming in at Bishop O'Dowd, but even so the Dragons will be young and that may keep them from getting very far in postseason.

I think pretty highly of Salesian, and as mentioned Mitty, and of course Pinewood can beat anybody on any given night. (Full disclosure: I'm now assisting at Miramonte.)

Cardinal Newman should be strong but really the key is going to be who gets bumped up to Open, and who gets to stay in their natural division. The worst position a team wants to be in is seeded sixth seventh or eighth in the Open. That happened to Brookside Christian last year, which means they are now stuck in Division I in Sac-Joaquin, even though they lost a tremendous amount of talent and really don't appear to be of that caliber this year.

In the end though, injuries will have a lot to say about who's left standing at the end of the year. Injuries have already impacted St. Mary's in a very negative way and sadly, we all know there are more to come.

@Clay- it will be a miracle if some how some way the Lady Rams have a successful season, they just don't have enough skilled players as back-ups (not at Tom's expectation level). The task this year was already hard with the losses to graduation and transfers but now all these injuries?... I'm predicting they will be what Mater Dei was last year and they will play in their natural division for both rounds of the play-offs...if they can make it to both rounds. Its Ok, everybody goes through a rebuilding period at some point it just took SMS real long to get there, gives you a great appreation what a power program they were for so long...they will be back. Same goes for Mirramonte:p

This is Mitty, Salesian, BOD or Pinewood's (Wait! also don't sleep on SHC, they still have some pieces) year to take it all...who wants it more?

It's going to be interesting to see the SJS division alignment that is suppose to be updated/out in Dec. If it looks similiar to what is out there now then yeah, I'm curious to see come state run time if BOD and Sac High will meet one another? Sac girls are young and athletic they just need to work on shooting consistency but watch out for my Lady Dragons they are a force if not this definitely next year. They remind me of West Campus that needed few years to get things going because they were so young.

I now know more about the SJS playoffs than I really want to, and there's a rule that says a team that is in the Open one year, must remain Division I for the next two years, unless they don't make the playoffs. It's hard for me to imagine St. Mary's not making the playoffs, and if they should get to the semi's, they'll stay in D1 another two years.

Don't underestimate Tom, as he's had really, really good teams in the past without a plethora of superstars. Brookside Christian, however, will most likely have it a bit tougher.

If I understand the process correctly, and I spent an hour on the phone with someone from SJS, if Sacramento doesn't go Open, the Dragons will go Division IV. I find this a little hard to believe, but that's what it looks like. Maybe they slide up to D3, but if Sacramento avoids the Open and drops to D4, it could be a really good year for Michele Massari.

I was wrong: Sacramento is locked into D2, along with Vanden, Del Oro, Wood and Modesto Christian. And Hiram Johnson, Valley, Christian Brothers and Bradshaw Christian are all locked into D3, assuming they make the playoffs.

Last season Salesian's Angel Jackson (6-5), Mitty's Haley Jones (6-0) & Pinewood's Hannah Jump (6-0) made meaningful impacts as true frosh...Clay Kallam, are you aware of any impact newbies entering this season as freshmen or transfers? If so, could you please list the teams and the respective players. Thank you. GO BEARS!

That's an interesting question, and I don't have a good answer for you right now.

I know St. Mary's of Stockton has an impact freshman, but I don't know her name, and there are others, but no superstars have the community buzzing at this point. But I'll start digging ...
