I now know more about the SJS playoffs than I really want to, and there's a rule that says a team that is in the Open one year, must remain Division I for the next two years, unless they don't make the playoffs. It's hard for me to imagine St. Mary's not making the playoffs, and if they should get to the semi's, they'll stay in D1 another two years.
Don't underestimate Tom, as he's had really, really good teams in the past without a plethora of superstars. Brookside Christian, however, will most likely have it a bit tougher.
If I understand the process correctly, and I spent an hour on the phone with someone from SJS, if Sacramento doesn't go Open, the Dragons will go Division IV. I find this a little hard to believe, but that's what it looks like. Maybe they slide up to D3, but if Sacramento avoids the Open and drops to D4, it could be a really good year for Michele Massari.
