"Top-12 2021 WBB prospect Latasha Lattimore, 6-4 F, Crestwood Prep (Toronto, ON), has announced that she's narrowed her list to a top six: Cal, UCLA, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, and Syracuse (her top ten had also included Baylor, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Tennessee)"

I'm so happy to see so many forwards interested in Cal. We should be able to return to our rebounding and paint-battle winning ways. But we need more guards, and good ones...
Here's a quote from Geno on the subject:

"No matter how much it changes, basketball's always about if you have the best guards, you have a chance to have the best team," Auriemma said. "And when you don't have the best guards, you're always going to struggle against the teams that have the best guards"

Let's go bears!

Couldn't agree more with you. Especially guards or forwards that can hit from the outside consistently. It will only open things for our bigs.

It appears that Cal is also recruiting Lattimore's HS PG teammate, and her list schools is identical:

"Shayeann Day-Wilson, is a 5'5" point guard who also plays for Crestwood.

Her list of finalists, thus far, includes: she narrowed hers to 12: Syracuse, Michigan, Florida, Kentucky, Notre Dame, UCLA, Cal, Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisville, Baylor, and Harvard."

It is not a pretty process, but many of the best and fastest rising programs recruit over the people who are already there. The strongest then survive, and others transfer out. I wouldn't mind if we did the same over the next two years, if we are in a position to do so.

Kianna Smith transferred to Louisville last April. She is sitting out this year, and is on the bench at home games. Louisville has recruited over her from what I can see. I wonder if she will get much playing time? She wants to play in the WNBA so left CAL.....Minyon Moore's older sister went to Louisville, then transferred to USC. Minyon is a Grad/Transfer, and is the PG at Oregon. USC has been depleted by players transferring....

Unfortunately there aren't a ton of guards on the West Coast for the c/o 2021. But in addition to Harriel, Madison Conner from Arizona is a good guard to keep tabs on. She is ranked #56 by PN and top 40 by ASGR.

April has been following her on Twitter for a bit.

The hole we are really trying to climb out of is Kianna Smith and MacKenzie Forbes transferring. Neither of those players left for lack of playing time. And there was no one as good on the roster to take their place. So next year's recruiting at the guard and wing positions obviously has to overcome that loss of both players and momentum.

It's not like those classes were big. Kianna Smith was part of a class of two (the other being Alaysia Styles). McKenzie Forbes was a class of one. When you end up with one player from consecutive classes it is a pretty big hole. LG's first recruiting class was a zero.

We also lost Lauren Fields, a guard from Oklahoma, who opted out of her LOI when Coach G left for the Cavaliers.

Lauren signed with Oklahoma State who is 2nd to last in the Big 12

She is playing about an average of 20 minutes/game but shooting a very poor percentage from the floor

guess she is a good defender or does other things well for her to play that many minutes

I was mainly thinking about our current guard depth. I haven't looked at her college stats.
