Cal beat #1 USC in water polo in Los Angeles today.Cal was #2 until losing, somehow, losing to #12 Pepperdine; so they dropped to #5. It will be interesting to see how they rank them next Wednesday. Cal has beaten #2 UCLA in their only meeting and is 1-1 v Sc.

2021 MEN'S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 20 (WEEK 6)

The University of California-Los Angeles returns to the lead position in the 2021 Week 6/October 13 National Men's Varsity Top 20 Poll.

UCLA (98 points) which shared the No. 1 berth in the Week 2 Poll with sole custody of the rating in the Preseason, Week 1 and Week 3 voting dislodges the University of Southern California as the Trojans dropped a 7-6 game to the University of California over the weekend.

The victory allows California (95 points) to jump three spots to take over at No. 2, while USC (92 points) slips to No. 3. The rise of the Golden Bears combined with the fall of the Trojans drives Stanford University (86 points) back to No. 4. Long Beach State University (78 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (76 points) which rated at No. 8 and 4 last week ascend and sink to No. 5 and 6, respectively, , with University of the Pacific (71 points) and the University of California-Davis (64 points) taking over at No. 7 and 8.

Pepperdine University (58 points) inches back to No. 9...

Interesting order to the rankings; Cal beat Ucla in their only meeting 10 or so days ago. The Pepperdine loss is being held against the Bears even though Cal holds the best head to head record among the so called "Big Four."
It's reminiscent of 2018, when a loss against Harvard kept Cal out of the NCAA tournament after apparently qualifying with late season wins over USC and Ucla.

Just wanted to say that the Cal water polo matches broadcast LIVESTREAM have been excellent!

I have found the quality of the livestream inconsistent, but usually pretty good.

The stream gets bad when there is steam coming off the pool...and heavy rain! Before these kicked in against Princeton the quality of the stream was excellent. The play in the pool, however, left much to be desired until the fourth quarter...again.

I'm wondering if Cal's Covid problems this weekend will effect their ranking this Wednesday. My guess is some coaches will drop Cal; will it be enough to drop them from number #2.

A couple of coaches dropped us, probably due to COVID.
