Major news: Hugo Gonzalez is still listed on the roster as a grad student.
Both Reece Whitley and Chris Jhong had earlier confirmed their intention to take their Covid 5th year, and Reece is expected to be a significant point earner in his individual events as well as a relay contributor. If Jhong can return to form he has an outside chance on earning an NCAA invite.
Freshman Matthew Chai and grad transfer Patrick Callan look to be impact additions to the team in the mid and distance free events, with the Bear's also adding four breaststrokers, including D3 champion Luke Rodarte. Colby Hatton adds sprint depth, and grad transfer Bora Unalmis provides distance depth.
Cal also adds Conrad Eck. a 6'2" diver from Colorado.
Hugo, along with Destin Lasco, Bjorn Seeliger, Liam Bell, Jason Louser, Reece Whitley, Dare Rose and Gabriel Jett all project to be multi-individual event point earners at the NCAA championship level, and collectively make up one of the top relay groups in the country. Texas and Florida will also be championship contenders but the Bears are poised to repeat as NCAA champs.
