Pressure is very high for California's starting freshman 3B and SS. It's reasonable to expect that they will work through it and live up to their press clippings.

It seems like there is a site specific issue with either the live stats or Wi-Fi. I don't think it's a Cal issue. So i expect there to be no problems after this weekend.

Reimers got the start against USD

What's to like with the pitching so far? Only 5 free passes (vs 20 from our hitters). Huge issue for us last year and you will do well if you give up only 1 a game.

What's not to like? Teams are hitting .309 against us.

The other frosh pitcher, Sam Rocha, got her initial college inning yesterday and struck out the side. She did allow a single. I would give these two an opportunity, saving Sona Halajian for the CSF rematch at 11:30 am.

Cal has gained a whopping 23 places in the Massey ratings, and will be in the top 20 pending the afternoon game with Fullerton.

What is the "eight-run rule" in NCAA softball?

According to the NCAA, the "eight-run rule" can put an end to a game if one team is leading the other after at least five equal innings. The game must go through complete innings unless it's the home team that reaches an eight-run lead while batting. So, a home team could end a game after four-and-a-half innings if there is a hit that results in an eight-run lead for the home team.

Ashanti is injured not suited up.

Hitting is really not the problem I'm seeing today. We are better than before. This pitching issue is an ongoing thing and more serious. Our #1 pitcher pitched again today where Fullerton timed her yesterday and got rocked for 6. We now have #3 Reiner in there. I was hoping to see Ashanti but injured. Lost 6-2 just ended.

Bummer. 5-1 opening weekend with some key strengths and areas to improve on.

They did too hammer her. I like Sona however. I think the best quality is that she has a very short memory and that is a quality in a pitcher that you want. Haylei seems to be physically gifted but from what I've seen, she has control problems and she gets in her head too much. As an umpire, I see the pitchers and hitters that have short memory. All good players have very short memory. I think Sona has a short one. I am concerned after her though...Anna Reimers pitched better than I expected tough. She shut them down. Unfortunately I was way to out in the fringes to see if there were any movements in the pitched balls. Got some pictures here.
