Both teams are solid hitting teams but were overmatched in the first inning. Ryann Orange struck out the side and the Gael's ace, Odhi Vasquez, fanned two of three Bears retired in order.

Cal hitters need to be more aggressive against Vasquez. Only Elon Butler swung and fouled balls off early in the count yet still chased a high pitch and K'd. The other two were statues and had two strikes looking before they decided to swing. Quiroga fanned and Anzaldo flew out to LF.

Acacia Anders takes a called third strike. She had a rough weekend at Utah and barely contributed to the offense over three games. She was one reason why the Utes took 2 of 3 from the Bears. Tianna Bell battled through an eleven pitch at bat to earn a walk. Great job! This pitcher is tough. Kaylee Pond also reaches base via HBP. However, the SM's pitcher retired the next two easily on a pop up to 1st base and another called 3rd strike.

In the B3rd, Cal scrapes across a run on a bunt single, a sac bunt & high bounce chopper up the middle for a run. Elon Butler grounded out to 1B and Acacia Anders took three consecutive called strikes for another K. AA appears to have forgotten how to hit. Odhi Vasquez has excellent control and can locate her pitches on the outside and inside corners on a regular basis.

Incredibly generous strike zone.

True. However, it's the same for both pitchers and the hitters have to adapt to the ump's strike zone in each game.

Saint Mary's ties the game 1-1 in the T4th with a walk w/ bases loaded. Annabel Teperson is now in the game in relief. She retires the side with a soft ground ball to second base. RO only gave up three infield hits, three walks and a hit batter. She did not get hit hard.

Vasquez closes out the fourth frame. She has yielded only two hits while striking out five Bears. Cal also has not hit the ball hard.

Teperson gives up a bloop single to CF but strikes out two batters looking to strand the runner at second.

In the B5th, Mike Lee singled to RF but was erased by a DP. Tatum Anzaldo doubled to left field but Elon Butler could not bring her home. The only Cal hitters that can handle Vasquez are Lee (2-2), Anzaldo (2-3) & Pond (1 hit + 2 walks).

St Mary's generated back-to-back singles but Teperson got a double play play grounded to short (6-4-3).

Top of the 7th, the Gaels get a gift infield hit. The runner was out but no replay available. Ump missed the call.
Bottom of the 7th coming up for the Bears. No problem for ace Vasquez as she strikes out Kylie Todd and Lagi Quiroga. Mika Lee hit the ball to the warning track in center but it was caught.

Here comes extra innings for the Gaels and the Bears. Acacia Anders hits a two-out walk-off HR to deep CF for a 2-1 victory. GO BEARS!

This was a standard trap game. Happy to get the W but…not a very inspiring win.

Hopefully we can get the sweep this weekend, including win #30 on the season.
