One of the top homerun offenses (Cal) against one of the best ERA pitchers in the country (Groff, SIU). I'm excited about this round one matchup!

LSU is a new SEC destination for Cal. It should be fun. The tv panel mentioned Southern Illinois as a team that has a chance to make a lot of noise in the tournament. Can someone link the recent national softball rankings to see how high LSU, Cal & the SI Salukis are rated.

I visited Southern Illinois and they only lost 9 games. However, they played very few P5 teams. They played at Illinois and at Iowa, beating them both. They have a 5-4 frosh LHP, Maddia Groff (29-3), that has a 0.81 ERA and she went the distance in both victories. She held each Big Ten team to one run. The Salukis also have one power hitter, sophomore Jackie Lis, with 16 HRs that the Bears will have to be careful with but their offense didn't look to be anything special. Their pitching is the challenge for Cal's offense. I have not scouted LSU yet because if Cal falls to Southern Illinois, we'll drop to the loser's bracket facing Jackson State.

Huskies are headed to the Columbia, Missouri Regional.

They likely opted not to send us there instead because we played Missouri in the Oklahoma Regional last season.

And if we win the regional, we get to play the winner of the furd regional. I think furds are going down. And even if they win, Candy will prob pitch 20,+ innings that weekend and might be tired.
