Apparently Ava Tapia is highly thought of. She is listed as #8 catcher coming out of high school per @z3nrecruiting (never heard of this service but it's really quiet so anything to lift our spirits)

Looks like Coach Singleton will have an extra two or three scholarships to work with. Excited to see who he can bring in. He basically said on the podcast I listened to that recruiting won't be an issue. I love the confidence but hey, he's earned it!

It's surprising that she chose to decommit right after the announcement of our new coach. Her travel coach played a role in guiding her to this decision. I believe it's a mistake on her part, but as they say, "C'est la vie." (Her loss!) Players may come and go, but a degree from Cal is forever!

There are a lot of Division II athletes out there who are just as talented, if not more so, than some Division I. I've seen some incredibly impressive athletes. Many D2 athletes choose this path for academic reasons and their preferred majors, rather than getting caught up in the D1 "hype." Our academic reputation is strong, after all. While the Division I transfer portal is currently closed, there will be plenty of opportunities in Division II during December 1-15, 2025. I am sure we will put out a quality and competitive product for upcoming season.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Coach Steve Singleton make room from our panicked pickup from the portal. I'm sure he's busy reaching out to potential recruits.

I'm very very optimistic we will make this work going forward!

You and me both. Keeping together are impressive 2025 signing class was a huge win. I feel confident in the foundation. They'll get to see a lot of playing time.

There is a Sophie Everett listed on the Lady Magic that list Cal. Is she still going to Cal?. The roster has Granata as a Cal too but that was before she had a change in commitment. Both probably was coach under former Bear Lindsey Muño .

Tapia to UCLA. Kind of bummer but judging by the 2027 recruits, Singleton will have zero issues recruiting an elite catcher.

It appears that Cal lost Ava Tapia, Zoey Thomas & Ava Lee. A new addition has subsequently joined in Charlotte White. She attends Long Beach Wilson HS.

I've watched thousands of players over the years and can confidently say Cargill will be a huge player for us.

She reminds me of Tatum Anzaldo. Can hit for power, slap, drag bunt…happy Singleton kept her around.

I'm happy with the recruits but until they sign a letter of intent I will be sitting on pins and needles. This NIL is just making it so difficult to lock up these verbals (smh))!

I do USA Athletics Rogers games. I hope to do her game soon. I will report back if I do.

For your information: She will be at the PGF Shootout this weekend in HB Athletic Park for you So Cal OC people.

Unfortunately I will be on another field at same park while she plays on Field 4 on 10.24.2025 tonight.

I do have a break while she will be warming up. I will go check her out during her warmup. I hope to see the Cal coaching staff again tonight.

SAT and SUN, I am at another park so I wont see her again.

Sat 10:15 PM Field 4
Sat 2:45 PM Field 4
Sat 5:30 PM Field 7

Sunday is bracket play so she can play anywhere.

Met Charlotte White, nice gal. Also, as I was walking by ran into Cal Nugget and met Ava Lee, Nisha Mehta and Alanna Clincy.
Interestingly enough, Ava will be attending Lehigh in Pennsylvania. Apparently, not attending Cal was one of those things that happens with coaching changes. While she is enthused about Lehigh, I think she wanted to stay closer to home…. Finally, met a couple of girls committed to CBU. They were all recruited by Telesco to play for Cal. Happy for her! She had a fantastic senior year with us.


I was hoping we'd get past SIU on Day 2 of the regionals and give her the ball against LSU in the finals, but unfortunately, it just wasn't in the cards. Bummer that her last appearance was that rough outing day 1 of regionals.

I am not just somewhat irked. I am pissed that she is at CBU. However I wish her best. She is a kid and was swayed.
