Cal has moved up to 7th and Stanford is 13th.
https://roadtonationals.com/results/standings/season/2025/5/0/5

Cal's average is 196.920 while Stanford average is 196.513.
Cal's high score is 197.275 while Stanford's high score is 197.250

Stanford's scores have been 195.600, 197.025, 196.175 and 197.250 (high this season). I would toss out the first week (and eventually it does get tossed out when rankings switch to NQS) and Stanford is at 196.816.
Stanford is ranked
Vault 20
Bars 14
Beam 13
Floor 8

Cal's scores have been 196.275, 197.275, 196.950, 196.925 and 197.175
Cal is ranked
Vault 10
Bars 5
Beam 9
Floor 5

So, it could/should be a close meet. But, Bears get some advantage as it is at Haas. Bears got a lift by having several debuts at NCState, and hopefully Cal's scores will be on the upswing.

First event. Cal hits 49.250 on vault almost season high.
Furd with 49.375 on bars. Cal has 49.400 this year
OBear073akaSMFan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Furds a couple of major hops in the vault and only 5 vaulters.
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
furd hits 49.075 on vault so less than Cal.
Cal was matching Furd's 49.375 when went to commercial with a score unknown. But it was 9.85 so should be 49.400. Lauzon and Frazier with 9.925 and 9.9
Cal leads 98.659 to 98.450

On to beam for Cal
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ending on floor may be Cal advantage. Furd may score big on floor - their best event.

Beam is not great start. Cesario with 9.775 and then after Williams gets a 9.9, Mayhew falls so Cal will have to count the Mayhew 9.775. Mayhew was 9.175. Ouch.
Pressure is on for Frazier Lauzon and Scanlon
OBear073akaSMFan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Phew..they all came thru but furds doing well on the floor too.
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Frazier had some deductions for 9.8 but Lauzon hits 9.925 and Scanlon a 9.875 for event total of 49.275 which is lower than average.

Is Ondine doing an exhibition? If so how she do?
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
After 3. Cal 147.925and Stanford 147.775 so closer but Cal can close out on floor and looks like should get a good 197 total.

Scanlon coming thru! Great for depth if she keeps this up she gonna be a lock for beam.

They have not showed any exhibitions. And I dont have live scoring. The collegegymnews liveblog does not have any comments on any exhibitions

Found the live scoring. Ondine scored 9.425 on beam. No idea why

I'm not an expert but you can tell she is talented. No wobbling on the beam & straight lines. Not sure of the difficulties but at the end she just step off. Probably didn't want to put pressure on her leg.
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Stanford putting on pressure with first beam scores of 9.95, 9.9 and 9.9
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Mayhew responded from fall with 9.95 and Williams follows with 9.85. Keunecke only 9.825. Team scores tightening
OBear073akaSMFan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yipe forth furd on beam 9.95. Think we need some 10s
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Another 9.95 on beam for Stanford!
Cesario on floor scores 9.925!
ncbears
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Stanford has their best beam score of year 49.625 which is insane!
Frazier responded with 9.9
Lauzon finishes with a 10!!!!!!!
Cal wins!

Cal finishes 197.550, its best score of season.
Heck of a response on floor! 49.625! Prior top floor was 49.475.

Go Bears!

Two things that I want to express:
#1-Stanford has improved so much in the last two years that they have reached the elite level. Their team performance on the balance beam (all 9.9 or better) was incredible.

#2- I actually stated to my wife that Mya Lauzon would have to get close to a perfect 10 for Cal to triumph. Then, as the last gymnast of the meet, she goes out and executes perfection (10.00). I believe that Mya Lauzon has the Bear's highest score on every single event so she probably win the ACC Gymnast of the Week for the 3rd or 4th time.

Both teams will make it to nationals. It was the tightest Big Meet yet between these two arch-rivals! Wow!

Btw, Cal has typically one weak performer out of six on each event so the team could really use Ondine Achampong to join the rotation to help the Bears rise up and capture the national championship. GO BEARS!

What an exciting finish! Stanford was so strong on beam and really applied the pressure, and Cal responded. Lauzon is a real performer on Floor!

Go Bears!

Cal has another dual meet with Stanford on the farm plus two quad meets before ACC tournament.

I thought this would be close and it was. And the future ones will be tight. Cal has room to grow - beam and bars are not up where they were last year but there is time.

Note: if my math is correct, Cal is now averaging 197.008 for the season, but won't move up

Of the teams ahead, #7 UCLA put up 197.950 and #4 Utah put up 197.675
#3 LSU stumbled (for them) to a 197.300
#2 Florida has a bigger stumble losing to Arkansas - 196.625 to 197.175.
Oklahoma just keeps rolling with a 197.825, which will barely raise its average.
Oklahoma is way out in front averaging 197.730 before this weekend, a score Cal has not yet even hit this year.
#5 Michigan State competes today (Saturday 8 February)

In a previous thread, I said that Cal's move to the ACC meant that the ACC, and ESPN which owns the ACC Network, would prominently feature Cal Women's Gymnastics.

Without a doubt this is now a perennial top 5 program and the ACC 's premiere program. (Though Stanfurd is closing the gap...yikes).

Look at one of ESPN's tweets from this morning so the East Coast knows what they might have missed:

Yeah they travelling more but you can't underestimate the exposure this program will deservedly get

Scores are down in gymnastics - Cal also is missing to graduation two major contributors in Andi Li and Gabby Perea. Perea was almost always a 9.9+ on bars and most of the time either close to or over 9.9 on beam. Li also was a consistent 9.9+ on bars and high 9.8 on beam. No one has yet stepped up to their levels of performance on those two elements.

Some schools, like UCLA, got their Olympians (or those who were training for olympics) back from their 2024 absence. Those schools have gotten stronger. Cal's major Olympian (sort of) add was Ondine but she has been injured and given how she stepped off the beam, she may not be ready for full competition.

Anyways, at this point last year, per Standings - Cal was in second with an average of 197.064 behind Oklahoma who was then at 198.113. Cal did not break 198 until the February 25 meet with UCLA.

The website: Teams has what appears to be final rankings with Cal in second and second on beams and bars, third on floor and sixth on vault.

Yeah you can't underestimate what Andi Li and Gabby Perea brought. Both veterans who consistently put up strong 9.85+. I don't recall Andi Li falling and Gabby had the ability to score in the upper 9.9s. may take a while for our younger bears to be more consistent.

I have a question about the scheduling of meets? Who controls that? The coaches? Some administrator? Why does the National Runner Up agree to compete in meets that are not streamed or on pay streams? Seems to me that every meet should at minimum streamed and if the meets do charge it should be one provider that we aren't paying multiple providers for basically one meet a year?
