Another question is where the guys that didn't swim ACCs swim and whether they get a chance to knock out any of the current qualifiers. By my reckoning the following 19 have at least a chance to qualify with their current times:

Lasco, Alexy, Jett, Rose, Seeliger, Henveaux, Okadome, Petty, Kopp, Hanson, K. Jones, Tomac, Chai, Klein, Rivers, Jensen, Mazellier, Saleem, Najera

Since Vavitsas and Thai combine to take a spot, two of the above would have to be dropped IF all the time hold up; Klein and Saleem are the most likely.

But then a handful of others who didn't swim at ACCs have solid best times from midseason or earlier and could qualify from a last chance meet. I'd count at least Applebaum, Pusateri Gissendaner, and Soderlund in this group. We also have Battaglini who got within 0.1 or so of a likely invite in the 50 but then scratched the 100; Frandson could get there with a last chance meet as well, though it's a long shot.

18 is the number of swimmers. Can anyone provide a list of those A qualifiers so far and those B qualifiers most likely are in? I'm excluding any divers for now. Thanks in advance

Using top 22 times as baseline (since results will change after men's Big Tens, Big 12, and Ivies)

Current guaranteed qualifiers are Alexy, Seeliger, Jensen, Lasco, Hanson, Henveaux, Jett, Kopp, Klein, Petty, Tomac, Jones, Okadome, Rivers, Rose

Mazellier is 23rd in the 200 free and Chai is 23rd in the mile but I think both should be safe. Same goes for Najera, who is 24th in the 400 IM

Ones to watch... Saleem is 27th in the 200 back, Gissendaner in a 3-way tie for 26th in the 100 breast, Applebaum 29th in 200 fly

Battaglini - 35th currently but scratched remaining ACC events due to injury

Sorry to learn about Battaglini's injury. I hope he recovers fully since he will be a key returning member to our free sprint group with the departures of Bjorn Seeliger and Jack Alexy.

Matt Chai has dealt with injuries and illnesses during his two years at Cal, so I hope he is healthy and traning well for NCAAs.

The staff is keeping the covers on Evan Petty after his PB 100 back posted in Minn this past Dec. I would have enjoyed seeing Petty swim this past week, but so would the Texas and Indiana staffs.

It was good to see Tyler Kopp, Robin Hanson and Matt jensen achieve SB times to get NCAA invites, but I assume thay needed some rest leading up to ACCs. Can they swim faster with a second taper in a month?

I'm still a bit pissed about Brooks Curry. He is denied eligibility because he earned a few bucks swimming, while Texas backed up a Brinks truck to buy Chris Guiliano. Horse manure.

That's 15 guaranteed and 3 safely in which gets you the 18. I guess the coaches will have to evaluate others including 2 divers that will give them the best chance for points.

Is Curry officially ruled ineligible to race NCAA competitions? Last I read, NCAA was investigating him because he received funding from USA swimming as part of the National Team. Meanwhile Texas apparently gets 25 year old Johnston back for a 6th year next season and the NCAA sees no issues with that. Hypocrites.

Problem with college athletics now, you can probsbly make more money in college now than working a 9-5 job..and you only have to work for 6 months or so.

No official word yet, but to paraphrase, "Curry's got two chances, slim and none. And Slim just left town".

Mary-Ambre Moluh on Swimming in NCAA: "I genuinely love yards"

French junior champion and Golden Bear freshman Mary-Ambre Moluh appears to be thriving in the NCAA and at Berkeley. At her first conference championships, she made 3 A-finals in her individual events (7th in 50 free, 2nd in 100 back, and 8th in 100 free) and helped the Cal relays to four Top-5 finishes.

Several women's swimmers are taking part in a last chance meet in College Station, TX (Texas A&M).

Of note, Margaux McDonald swam a 59.41 in the 100 breast, improving on her 59.53 from ACCs and moves to rank 36th in the nation. This punches her ticket to NCAAs

Pre-Selection Psych Sheets For 2025 Women's NCAA Championships Released

Following the conclusion of all conference meets, below is where our NCAA women's roster stands per the coaching staff's NCAA entries

IN (top 35): Mary-Ambre Moluh, McKenna Stone, Lea Polonsky, Kathryn Hazle, Lilou Ressencourt, Isabelle Stadden, Ava Chavez, Maya Geringer, Finley Anderson, Abby Herscu

Bubble (right side): Margaux McDonald (36th in 100 breast), Lizzy Cook (37th in 200 fly)

Bubble (wrong side): Alicia Henry (39th in 200 breast), Camille Henveaux (43rd in 500 free), Mia West (43rd in 200 IM), Morgan Brophy (44th in 100 fly)

Pleasantly surprised by the number of scratches in the 200 free - Chavez was on the wrong side of the bubble initially after this weekend (39th I think, now ranked 28th and will get 3 individual swims). Last year's cutline was around line 37, so McDonald may be safe but Cook might be either last couple of swimmers in or first few out if the trend continues.

USA-Swimming database should have Rivers at 27th without considering any last chance meet.
The database has duplicate entries for Ron Polonsky at 21st, and that pushes Rivers down from 27th to 28th.

The database for ncaa is at
https://data.usaswimming.org/datahub/ncaa/divI/timeseventrank
Lately, its data often has duplicate entries. So it is still ranking Rivers at 28th.

Swimcloud.com site doesn't have duplicate entries, and it ranks Rivers at 27th, which is correct.

Thanks for the catch. Updated the list accordingly.

IF all qualifiers through rank 27th are entered into the meet, that puts the men's swimmers at 17 qualified. Diving zones are this weekend and we should find out about qualifiers within the next couple of days or so, but based on current season results I would imagine Thai and Vavitsas are likely booking return trips to the big meet to combine for that last athlete slot.

Highly unlikely, but if we manage to get 18 swimmers qualified, who are we cutting to make room for divers?
BRBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Definitely unlikely as they're not swimming particularly well at the SMU meet (probably just hard to get up for any last chance meet) but Applebaum might have a slim chance tomorrow; if he does I think Klein is most likely to get left homefreshman so he's got plenty more chances, slower best time than Chai, and only one potential scoring event where he's not likely to drop a bunch more and score. But who knows maybe he can drop even further in the 1650 tomorrow.
BRBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Should've had more faith! Looks like Pusateri Gissendaner (51.55, tied for 25th so should be on the right side of the bubble) and Applebaum (1:40.39 for 13th! quite a year for him dropping 3 seconds from his Claremont McKenna time) both just swam their way in. Chai had a tiny drop in the 1650 but not enough to move up a spot.

They won't post the second heats of the 200 breast or 100 free so can't see what anyone else did; no one in the 100 was very close but Rivers could have firmed up his spot.

Edit: Rivers gets out of bubble territory with a 1:51.23

So that's 19 or 20 swimmers in, meaning 2-3 get left home; have to think it'll be the milers + Pusateri Gissendaner.
swimmer19
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's crazy how fast the sport has gotten. Klein and Chai are not far off scoring based on previous year's results but this year aren't guaranteed an invite (14:54 made the meet last year).

Looking back, last year the top 30 in each event are invited along with one swimmer ranked 31st. I suspect the invite line will likely be around the same range.

Minor correction - Gissendaner should be T-24th in the 100 breast (Noah Nichols from UVA is no longer swimming). Agree on the roster cuts between him and the milers, Najera might also be an option to scratch (25th in the 400 IM but would have scored last year...). Hopefully coaches still bring them to the meet, as they did with Rivers and Saleem last year who were on the alternate list.

Today was the last chance for athletes to post NCAA times. From a quick glance, the mile rankings have changed and Klein is 29th. That might make it in but Chai is 31st and likely out of the meet.

If 19 qualify, two are getting cut. Klein's mile time comes after he sustained a broken arm in the fall, so I wonder if he has more time to drop in him. Otherwise, he and Gissendaner will likely be off the roster, I think.
solobear

Ncaa and swimcloud websites reported Pusateri-Gissendaner's time for 100BR as 51.75s (SMU Last Chance Invite), which is ranked 37th - quite a few spots below the cutline.

How did swimswam get 51.55s ?
BRBear

It's possible the meet organizers neglected to report it, but the time comes from the first 100 of his finals 200, and should count as an individual 100 time.

Comment section notes that Battaglini had multiple shoulder dislocations within the last 2 weeks, once at ACCs and more recently this weekend. He was on our 200 free relay, but without the injury wouldn't have been on the NCAA roster due to not qualifying individually (19.15 ranks 43rd)

Hanson or Jensen will likely take his spot on the relay, with both having a history of 18 splits.

Projecting The Cut Line: 2025 Men's NCAA Division I Championships

Bears are expected to have 19 qualifiers, with Chai and Saleem on the alternate list. Coaches had to scratch down to 18 by noon today. No diving qualifiers yet as the zone meet is still underway in Federal Way, but I assume another scratch will be made once our divers reach qualifications.

Luca Pusateri Gissendaner was cut. The roster is now down to 18.

Today is the final day for divers to qualify. This afternoon, we'll know if more cuts are needed.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Geoffrey Vavitsas and Joshua Thai qualified for NC after finishing 3rd and 6th in the zone diving meet.

Bears will have to cut one more swimmer from the NC roster to make room for the 2 divers.

Bears have a lot of depth this year. It looks like they'll score every single swimming event. If the Bears' top swimmers perform the way they did in the past, the Bears will take the NC title.

Is this the results from today's platform dives? That would be great getting 3 divers (2 guys & 1 women) into the the Championships.

Yes. I believe the top 7 platform divers in Zone E should get NC invites, and Bears are ranked 3rd and 6th.
