Why limit your question to women's programs?

I'm bullish on the women's basketball team… especially with those two highly sought-after international 2026 commits coming in next year and such a young core already in place.

I'm extremely bullish on softball. Landing arguably the most sought-after assistant coach in the country as our new head coach is huge. New stadium. 2027 class already ranked in the top 15.

Volleyball, though… painful. Hard to believe we were once one of the top programs in the country.

59, point well taken, both longtime anti football obstructionists jennifer simon-o'neil and jay larson have presided over largely losing programs under their watches as knowlton's right arms as he "remotely" from colorado springs

it's disappointing that chancellor lyons appointed the unlikeable jay & jenny as co athletic directors with compensation for each just under $500,000 at a time when the university needs Builders of Berkeley level donations to sustain academic excellence...for many athletics is many grads portal window of the university so financial mismanagement is a red flag in donating to a university that is clearly wasting money with little to no accountability

cal fanatic, the women's basketball team is playing in front of under 1,000 actual attendance with no inroads in building the fanbase, some of that is due to an introverted head coach but it's still the abject failure of jennifer simon-o'neil to successfully put professionals in place to grown the program & sell tixs to haas

as for softball why did jennifer simon-o'neil hire a mentally unstable head coach that melted down (her beyond erratic 3rd base coaching decisions wuz a clear signal something wuz amiss) which has now cratered the recent ncca program now to the bottom of the acc as it attempts to rebuild??

as for volleyball, this year's 7-17 losing record is now the norm for a once final four program with honestly no improvement in sight

Probably because she was a former alumni, national champion and a highly respected assistant coach? You act like she was a crackhead picked off the streets to coach. Chelsea Spencer was a pretty consistent name that came up for HC jobs around the country. The tenure she had at Oregon and Texas was um, pretty damn good if you can't recall the 2010's of softball.

It didn't work out. Okay? Time to move on.

100% disagree, her psychotic breakdown wuz all right there with the pressures of becoming a 1st time head coach & a personality not well suited for leading others (or delegating authority)

u tole me that her suicidal running the bears outta 150+ bases (usually not even close) each of her 2 seasons in berkeley wuz basically ingraining an aggressive culture, hopefully now u can see it for wut it really wuz (certainly all the bearents that i spoke to at games thought it wuz a major red flag)

yeah simon-o'neil has failed in evaluating head coaches time and time again which is why so many women's athletic programs got losing records, in an accountable organization she would be FIRED

Well by all means if Shocky disagrees, then it must be true! Remind me again who you are? Besides some rando who goes on unhinged rants on these boards that make me wonder if you're either in desperate need of medication or just purposely dense.

If you actually knew anything about the hiring process, Cal had three finalists:

One was always a third choice. The runner up was a solid head coach and a former national champion player and Olympian, but had zero WCWS or Super Regional experience as a head coach and was a former rival of Cal.

The other was considered one of the top assistant coaches in the country, on a staff that had recently made multiple WCWS runs and a #1 ranking, with the backing of one of the best head coaches in the sport. Oh, and she was a national champion at Cal not someone who spent her playing days as an opponent.

So you can disagree all you want, but you're just flat-out wrong. Based on the actual facts, the hire was a good decision at the time it just didn't pan out. I know holistic thinking seems to be a challenge for you, but if there's one thing you're consistent about, it's letting your hatred for Jennifer override reality.

You're a freak.

Maybe you can take a break from posting pictures of college girls in bikinis on that football thread and from calling young recruits (literal children) "dumbazzes" for making personal decisions about where to play and actually answer the question: who should have been hired in 2020?

Did the people you can't stop posting about helping land the Assistant Coach of the Year from the reigning national champions somehow demonstrate "incompetence" in doing so?

I'm genuinely trying to understand the logic you're working with here.

ok, let's try this another way without u hopefully engaging in insults, are you supportive of the fait accompli termination of the unlikeable evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil who enabled the darkest era of cal athletics in enabling the racist & mental/physical abuse of the suicidal women's swimmers??

Of course i'm not supportive of the issue pertaining to the women's swimming team and think Jennifer should be held accountable for it.

But again, your inability to look at anything holistically is shocking. People can be bad at parts of their job and deserve criticism and accontability...that doesn't mean every single decision they've made is a bad one. In fact, there are objectively good decisions (like hiring Steve Singleton) that will likely pan out, and there were decisions widely praised at the time (like hiring Coach Spencer) that simply didn't work out. That's life. The whole point of my initial response was nobody who follows this sport thought it was anything but a good hire.
Your issue is that you clearly hate this person, and it shows, so you have to take issue with EVERY SINGLE ACTION BY THIS PERSON.

It's also pretty rich for you to whine about "insults" when all anyone has to do is scroll that thread and see you calling her a "******" and a "*****." Maybe she's an imperfect human who's made bad decisions, fine. Should she be held accountable? Yes. But your unhinged rants and flat-out incorrect claims that every decision she's made at Cal is bad are just not true, even when presented with facts.

And honestly, some of what you post borders on alarming. Go look at your own messages in that football thread. If anything ever happened to these people, I'd have no problem handing Berkeley PD printouts of the things you've written. They're unhinged. You seem unhinged.

Many of the women's sports teams have new head coaches or are in the process of finding one. Softball, volleyball, gymnastics, tennis, golf & lacrosse. Track & Field lost their elite weight's guru, Mo Saatara, who turned out both men's and women's national champions.

I'm surprised that Charmin Smith saved her job with a very successful season last year. This season will be much more difficult based upon their initial three games. The team has negligible proven talent. The two SEC transfers probably have the most, but they were reserves on their respective teams. Charmin Smith needs to find some outside shooters (treys) or the Bears won't be able to score enough to win many games against the SEC (3) or the ACC. GO BEARS!

jennifer simon-o'neil aka "cal fanatic"has surfaced on this board & is verbally attacking shocky and vice versa
https://bearinsider.com/forums/5/topics/130712

jenny is right, people are entitled to make mistakes but wut the non berkeley grad don't understand is that she's got a track record of NOT LEARNING from those mistakes

in the darkest era of cal athletics she enabled mckeever to mentally/physically abuse the suicidal women's swimmers but then she continues to let the women's soccer coach abuse his players & most recently let a crazy as **** softball coach she hired try to bully her players/staff which resulted in the program blowing up

****tards like jennifer simon-o'neil should NOT be paid just south of $500,000 and allowed to be in positions of authority to abuse/fail to protect our high gpa true student athletes that are seeking positive experiences at the greatest public university in the world

chancellor lyons, r u listening or r u gonna just close ur eyes & gaze out the window at ur office at the beautiful view of the campanile??

rich, the berkeley community is waiting for you to do the right thing brah

these 2 anti football/basketball co athletic director ****tards should NOT be allowed to hire the department's next marketing director and/or chief financial officer after all the work that cal's monster class put into educating the berkeley community re: worthless bureaucrats like themselves, markeisha everrett & tom lowry and of course general knowlton

the facts re: jay & jenny

1) they have worked AGAINST the football program during the last decade and just this year tried to reduce the program's nutrition budget and also reported several staffers to the ncca for minor recruiting violations, there's not a person that works in memorial stadium that would not like to see them ****canned

2) with football responsibilities now gone, they have 2 revenue sports that are FAILING to build fanbases: the last men's game had attendance less than 1,000 & the FUN women's team is not selling tixs either

3) there is zero mention of any news re: fundraising for a dedicated basketball only practice facility, why is that??

4) a majority of the men's & women's teams got losing records despite all the resources of the world's greatest public university

5) for many of us athletics is our clearest viewing portal into the operations of the university (and in my case the only reason to ever visit/return to campus), the chancellor paying them both each just south of $500,000 annually suggests that he's not a very financially disciplined steward of budgets/donations at a time of existential financial challenges confronting berkeley with reduced state & federal funding

shocky would encourage everyone who loves cal athletics to express their opinions on the department's gram public comments for this bull**** jay & jenny journal

donde esta ricardo in all of this??
