Article in Daily Cal on freshman track runner Sunny Margerum. She is the 3rd generation to compete on Cal track & field team. First grandfather Monte upshaw, Long jumper and sprinter who help set a number of american and national relay records while at Cal. He also [U]still[/U] holds the NCS high school LJ record at 25.4.5 which was set in 1954. Unbelievable it remains the NCS record after 56 yrs! He was voted into Cal Hall of Fame in 2007.

Next generation, Auntie Grace Upshaw, LJ and HH in '90s. Not until she graduated did she reach her peak. She made the olympic in 2004 and was a member of many world championship teams.

Sunny's mom Joy also was a track runner but not at Cal. She did coach T&F at Cal for a number of years. The only negative, sunny's dad is Ken Margerum that old pesky furd receiver. Oh well can't have everything!

BTW Sunny's sister name is Windy. Talk about a hippy family.

I met her mother at SJCC when she traveled to the CCS Championships with Tony Sandoval & Ed Miller. I had the opportunity to introduce my daughter to all of 'em...GO BEARS!

Sunny was injured last Sat in the CAL opener. She is schedule to have surgery tomorrow 8-(.

Wow what a bummer after she was injured most of her Senior year too.
