Dang, Riley Scott from USC second alternate. Vose 1:00.26 (38th) and Aroesty 1:00.55 (44th). Curious as to what's happening with the Trojans' breaststroke contingent?? (Maybe I'll eat my words when the 200 comes, we'll see.)

50.88 for Izzy. Holy, holy cow. Bested her heat by nearly two seconds, blasting her seed of 53.07 out of the freaking water.

Massive lifetime best by almost a second for Izz! She was the 45th seed btw.

I think Alicia also broke her PR?

Cheers to Sophie! PB in 52.37. So happy that she's getting the chances to swim at this meet.

Sophie joined the PB party with that 52.37

Still too early & premature to speculate as LSJU will bring in some heavy firepower tomorrow...but dare we hope for a possible & unprecedented upset of the Furdette Machine??!! WOuld be such a massive & well-deserved finale sendoff for the DT

Yes, Amy! 50.50 to win heat 7.

100 back:
Stanford: 1 up/2 down (Ruck/Nordmann, Voss)
Cal: 2 up/1 down (Amy, Izzy/Keeks)

Top 8: Nelson, Amy, MacNeil, Ruck, Ivey, Seidt, Tetzloff, Dressel.

Go Bears! Such an exciting morning so far. Almost glad that we have an intermission right now as a little break from all of the action. So proud of the coaches and ladies for putting together such fantastic performances.

Add Breast to Back, Fly, Free, and Relay U.

At least 'SC is still Vlogger and fake crew U!

What's the PB count for this morning? Too many ... yas, team!

100 Back - Smashing efforts from Alicia (#50 seed -> #44) & Sophie (#39 seed -> #25), accompanied by personal records to boot.

Keeks will contribute invaluably to the team scoring with her B final spot.

Billy will lead the charge to fend off a pair of ever dangerous freshies in LSJU's Ruck & UM's MacNeil. NCAA record holder Beata should be good for gold, she'll be looking to reclaim her American crown from Regan SMith tonight.

Izzy the biggest breakthrough here - we all knew how super versatile Ivey is, but backstroke wasn't historically her strongest area of speciality. There were signs as when she busted out that former PB back in the winter of 2018, but this is taking things to an altogether different level.

Can Izz possibly carry on the mantle for Backstroke U after Amy graduates, or at the very least be the bridge alongside Keeks whilst we recruit Isabelle Stadden (and perhaps Regan Smith ) from the 2020 class?

1:35.67 for Cal to eke ahead of Indiana, Mizzou in heat 2 of the prelims for 200 MR. Abbey really coming through with her anchor (20.97, only sub-21 split of the field).

A-final tonight:
Tennesse, NC State, Cal, Louisville, Michigan, Virginia, Indiana, Stanford

Another relay (in conjunction with the 400 MR last night) where the Farm squeaks into the A-final... of note, Texas just sliding into a second swim tonight with its relay at 16th, USC also in the B-final. Georgia 24th of 27th in a very interesting trajectory since their 2016 win and slow rebuild since.
UrsusArctosCalifornicus
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Darn, LSJU squeaks into the 200 MR A final by 0.15 sec.

Bears will be seeded 3rd in the A, could bring in Izzy on back for Keeks in spite of Ivey's tough double schedule tonight...

Oh yes, Ema's 58.97 lifetime best is a pretty big SCHOOL RECORD too - superceding Caitlin Leverenz's 59.20 and Jessica Hardy's 59.43!

Amazing performance by her and of course all of her teammates. Now if we can get some gravy from Phobe I'll be a happy Bear. Go Bears!

A few post-race video interviews from last night to keep the Bears party rolling, whilst we take a breather before looking eagerly forward to cheering on our beloved Golden Bears this evening:

2019 WOMEN'S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: DAY 3 SCORED PRELIMS

BY ANDREW MERING

"If Cal are going to pull off the upset and beat Stanford, swimming like how they did this morning is how it's going to happen. The Cal women project to score 148 swimming points tonight. That's 26.5 more than they were seeded to score on the psych sheet. Stanford project to 115, a gain of 10.5 over their seeds.

Adding the day 4 psych sheet projected scores to this mornings scored prelims and the actual score after yesterday, Stanford still project to win by 38, and that margin doesn't consider Stanford's diving advantage. Last night Stanford out scored Cal by 10 points on the 1 meter. That means that Stanford remain the clear favorites, but Cal are doing everything in their power to keep this a close meet.

Unlike last year the final day is not a formality. Stanford are seeded to score 70 more points than Cal tomorrow, but those high seeds come with the pressure of holding onto them.

If Stanford slip up, Cal are in a position to take advantage."

Swimswam has apparently only released their vids of the seeded heats - so we don't get to see Ema's 100 Breast school record (Heat 4), or Izzy's breakout 100 Back that overtook Lizzie's #6 spot on Cal's all-time Top 10 list (Heat 3) , or our Bears quartet of Keeks/Ema/Madds/Abbey in the 200 Medley Relay (Heat 2).

Second relay in the row they unfortunately squeaked by in the 8th spot. Maybe in tomorrow's relay will be our lucky charm day . wink wink (sorry don't know how to insert the emoji) !

2019 W. NCAA CHAMPS: CAL RACKS UP DOUBLE DIGIT FINALISTS ON DAY 3

The California Golden Bears lead all teams with 10 individual finals swims on day 3 of the 2019 Women's NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships. Current photo via Jack Spitser/Spitser Photography

Despite not claiming the top seed in a single event (individual or relay), Cal followed up their strong performance from Thursday night which included victories in both relays and an individual win from Abbey Weitzeil in the 50 free with a big morning on Friday.

The Golden Bears showcased their depth and amassed 10 individual finals swims (8 A-finals, 2 B-finals) to maintain striking distance within Stanford.

The Cardinal will have 8 individual swims on Friday night (5 A-finals, 3 B-finals), followed by Michigan with 6 individual swims (5 A-finals, 1 B-final).

After day 2 finals on Thursday night, Stanford led Cal 173.5 to 173.

While this meet seems too close to call now, the favor still lands with Stanford, barring any unexpected errors, thanks in large part to diving points.

Prelim unofficially just completed. Not sure how many advance to QF? Just the top 16? If so Phoebe placed 18. She was 17th after 5th dive but her last dive might not have been too good. Only one furd made it in the top 16, Caroline Sculti 12th. The other furd #37. If top 8 automatically goes into A, then diving damage could be minimal.

Looks like Phoebe's #18 placing had just missed qualifying for the consols finals by 2 spots - still, great effort!

LSJU's diving could put up a max of 9 points if their freshie star Carolina Sculti wins the B final (seeded #12), since their other diver ended up outside of scoring @ #37.

So not quite as bad as I had feared...
