Spencer adds her first recruit for the class of 2021. Olivia Silvestre is a fast, slap hitting OF from Cal High in San Ramon.

Congratulations to Olivia! I imagine Coach Spencer will be a draw for many young athletes. Anyone who has met her knows she is... extremely personable. I witnessed Ninemire show up three innings late for a local athlete's game... leave in the 6th inning.. and didn't see her utter a word to anyone. It frustrated me beyond words.

Chelsea would likely talk to everyone in the stadium.
What a difference. I would get excited every season and it would only take a few games before Ninemire would drain all that excitement out of me. We really needed this.

Olivia's high school team was not very good (1-4) before their 2020 season was cut short. She appears to be
a lefty slapper, lead-off hitter.

Anyone have a list of verbals for '21 and beyond?

Wonder how recruiting will go and how much of the CA travel summer season gets played? Tournament in Modesto this past weekend was shutdown after about 1/4 of the Friday games

I don't have a list but I do know some off the top of my head.

P Jordin King (From Corona Angels)
Gabriella Tobey (Pitched for Sorcerers and Lady Magic). Now that I think of it, she is actually attending Cal High (with Olivia!). From my understanding though she is no longer playing HS ball.
SS Elon Butler (Plays for Mitty)
Jasmine Polk Top 20 2023 Player

Isabela Emerlig was committed for awhile but de-commited for UNC. Strong hitter who played at the same HS as Sparacino. Unsure of any other commitments.

Thanks, would of been fun to watch some of these teams the last few weekends in Modesto, under normal circumstances

Cal High was good in 2019 (made it to semis of NCS) but graduated 9 seniors. Olivia was the only returning starter

I really like this girl. She has the speed, is an aggressive runner and most importantly appears to have the softball IQ. Very impressive. Now this is the type of a player we deserve!

Tobey hasn't played the last 2 years of HS and is no longer a commit.

Elon Butler Is a 2022.

Not playing High School is not all that uncommon. The question is, is she playing travel ball? There's incredible amount of politics in high school ball. I was going to pull my daughter out too.

Jordin King pitched to my daughter on a scrimmage when they attended Cal Camp together.

As far as I know, I don't think she has played since last summer for the Lady Magic.

What did your daughter think of King? I have not seen her play.

I can't get anything from my daughter. She is a typical teenager and does not really talks to her dad unless she needs something, lol. My recollection of her is that she passed the "eye test" and hit a homerun. Not a lot of Rachel Garcias around. They are all primadonnas and says things like "I only pitch". I remember she was good enough to get an offer on the spot from DN.

So my team drove to Phoenix to play in friendlies this weekend due to everything being shut down in Cali. I was talking to a former head coach for Southern Miss. We started talking about Chelsea Spencer and how Mike Smith from Ole Miss having probably being one of my other favorite coaches for the position. It made me feel extra assured that in her opinion, Chelsea Spencer is a much better hire for Cal than Mike Smith. I am even happier now with the hire than before.

Chelsea is and was always the best fit for the Cal position. I'm not worried about fit. I'm worried she won't get any opportunity to coach in the upcoming season. What gross incompetence to Covid-19... from all levels of government.

I am surprised more blame isn't placed on the Chinese government who allowed the virus to spread and come to us intentional or not. This is not a political statement; it's a statement of fact/opinion since they stopped all planes from flying into other Chinese cities but allowed international flight out.

I think it has to do with our political system in that we have the freedom and the constitution. We will never be able to control anything like the communist China. Their idea is, if you block our tanks protesting, we will just run you over. Problem solved

And blaming China, whether valid or not, does what to control the effects now that the virus is rampant here? The blame game is counterproductive and serves only to distract attention from a coherent response.

President has delegated the responsibility to the states (governor) and the city mayors. The democratic-run cities and states are for the most part shutting down their states and not backing the police departments, resulting in chaos in Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta, NYC, etc. It appears that they want to defeat Trump but not allowing the US economy to run or the US school system to operate. If you call the President a moron than what does that make the dem governments that provide no law and order? The democrats have failed to participate in the Trump government for nearly four years now. I guess that they want Marxist socialism to replace
our freedom & democracy. Our capitalist economic system is the strongest in the world by far. Heck-Newsom has not allowed me to get a haircut for approximately for five months and I'm going in for skin-cancer surgery this afternoon. My hair is longer now than in 1967 (the summer of love) when I went off to UCSB. GO BEARS!

CF-has Cal made an official announcement regarding SS Hope Alley, yet? She sounds promising for our defense for 2021 to solidify the middle. She evidently hails from Foothill High in Pleasanton, Val Arioto's alma-mater.

Hopefully this is the start of keeping more of the local stars at home. It's too bad we couldn't have gotten at least one of the Foothill stars from the 2020 class. Nicole May (p) and Courtney Beaudin (c) had to be the best HS battery in the country.

Looks like Cal received another commit from Marin Catholic, an Annabel Telperson. Her position is pitcher and the only 3 games played last season Marin won all by double digit shutouts. However don't know if Annabel pitched in those games.

There is a Marin Journal article showing she has committed to Cal but I only have access to the main page. Here is the headline for that article. CF have you seen her play?

Marin Catholic softball standout Teperson commits to Cal

Marin Catholic's Annabel Teperson (34) made a verbal commitment on Wednesday to play for the Cal softball team. Teperson, a rising senior, had a 1.02 earned-run average as a sophomore. (Douglas Zimmerman/Special to Marin Independent Journal)

Marin Catholic High softball standout Annabel Teperson lost a good chunk of her recruiting window as the coronavirus pandemic wiped out most of her high school and travel ball seasons. Despite all of that, the MCAL's 2019 pitcher of the year secured her collegiate future on Wednesday when she verbally committed to play for Cal.

"It was definitely difficult not having that full high school season in addition to not having a travel ball season at all," Teperson said. "It was different and it was difficult but with video and the help of my coaches and zoom calls of all of that, I was really able to make it work.

"I'm really grateful for my coaches and all my teammates especially my parents and everyone who supported me through this."

Teperson, who also plays for the Sorceror Softball travel team, said she chose Cal because of its strong softball program, its academics and its close proximity to home.

"Overall I knew I loved it and it was the right place for me," Teperson said.

In her last full season as a sophomore at MC, Teperson a rising senior went 20-1 with a 1.02 earned-run average, helping lead the Wildcats to a 25-1 record and a victory in the North Coast Section Division III championship game.

Teperson allowed a first-inning run in the title game against Sonoma Valley but was dominant from that point on, allowing one hit while striking out 11 over the last six innings.

"There's two things that make her really great," Marin Catholic softball coach Dave Albini said. "She hits a lot of her spots. I don't think any pitcher hits all her spots but Annabel is the closest thing to that.

"The second thing is she has a great off-speed pitch. Her changeup is probably her best pitch. When you hit your spots and change speeds, you can keep hitters off balance."

In addition to her pitching, Teperson hit .430 during her sophomore season and was second on the team in doubles (7), home runs (4) and RBIs (3) behind then-senior Julia Scardina, who plays for the University of Utah.

This past season, Teperson picked up right where she left off, combining on a no-hitter with Rose Malen in MC's first game of the year. Teperson didn't allow a run as MC started the season 3-0 before the pandemic wiped out the remainder of the campaign.

"I'm very excited," Teperson said of her verbal commitment. "It's definitely been a very difficult year for kids in my grade, and other grades for that matter. Recruiting has been difficult. I'm just so grateful to have had this opportunity."

Marin Catholic four-year varsity starting pitcher Carly Slack has graduated after amassing a 71-13 record and 1.66 ERA and moved on to CSU San Marcos, but don't expect a drop-off in the circle from the Wildcats.
From the time she was playing for the San Rafael Smackers and helped get their 12U team to the nationals, and then moved on to the top-notch Sorcerers 14U travel ball team out of Pleasanton, there have been big expectations for Annabel Teperson.
Last September FloSoftball listed her as one of the top uncommitted players that competed at PGF (Premier Girls Fastpitch) Ultimate Challenge from 14U to 18U.
Now, the freshman sensation has burst onto the high school scene as the new ace at Marin Catholic, and she couldn't have had a better first start to her career as a Wildcat after pitching a perfect game in a season-opening 5-0 victory over Casa Grande on Tuesday.
Teperson struck out 15 with only 15 pitches not strikes, and she never went to a three-ball count all game. She wasn't bad at the plate either where Teperson went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run batted in to go along with a solid day for junior star Julia Scardina who was 2-for-2 with a home run, double and two walks.
According to Marin Catholic Coach David Albini, who is starting his sixth year at the Wildcats helm, and recorded career coaching win No. 100 in the victory, Teperson relied on her fastball that's in the low 60's, and her riser in the Casa Grande victory, but she also has a wicked change-up and a curve she calls a cutter in her arsenal.
It should come as no surprise that Teperson is a student of well known North Bay pitching and hitting coach, and former San Rafael Coach Bill Gaito, who has coached her since she was 10-years old. Not only does Gaito have Teperson and had Slack as well, but he also coaches San Marin Utah-committed sophomore pitcher Madison Papenhausen, Cal-committed Drake junior pitcher Sona Halajian, and Redwood Dayton-committed senior pitcher Catherine Jensen. Gaito also coaches St. Ignatius Dartmouth-signed senior pitcher Madison Augusto and former Rancho Cotate pitcher Brittany Scardina, who is currently at CSU San Marcos.
"Annabel is a strong and talented freshman with the potential to be the best pitcher ever to play softball from Marin," Gaito wrote in an email. "She throws in the low 60's with pinpoint control on both sides of the plate and works as hard as any pitcher and is quite motivated to improve with aspirations of pitching in college."
"She's up there with the best ever in Marin for sure," said Albini, who assisted former legendary San Marin Coach Randy Willis for four years when his daughter Danielle Albini pitched for the Mustangs. "She's young so the ceiling is very high for her."
With Slack in the circle last season the Wildcats went 18-7 and 12-4 in league before bowing out in the NCS Division III semifinals to Papenhausen and eventual champion San Marin.
It's too early to tell whether Teperson is going to fulfill the potential that Albini and Gaito see in her, but one thing is for sure and that is she couldn't have had a better start.
As for the team Albini is missing 6-7 girls that are still playing basketball in the state playoffs so he won't be surprised if they lose a game or two until they join the team.
We'll find out this Tuesday when the Caravan treks the half mile to Petaluma High for the Wildcats game against the Trojans.

Incredible job by this new staff. Spencer has landed three top Northern California talents (all Sorcerer players) in a short time.

Cal's 2002-2005 dominance was on the back of top Nor Cal talent (West Bay Nuggets). CS knows what she is doing.

I particularly liked this quote from Alley's commitment article.

https://www.pleasantonweekly.com/news/2020/08/11/pleasanton-preps-multi-sport-athletes-face-tough-decision-come-spring-semester

"Alley will be playing for new Cal coach Chelsea Spencer. The former Cal shortstop was part of a Cal run of four straight Cal Softball World Series appearances. She is also one of the top infield coaches in the sport.

"How would you not want to play for a coach like that?" Alley said. "Learning from the best infield coach will be great."
