The first 8 years of my career my office was on the 8th floor of the Ordway Building. The FBI had the suite directly across the hall. A solid steel door with a peep hole. All the nut cases that couldn't get a response ringing their buzzer would come into our office and report things like the Martians are invading, the Russians are coming up the Carquinez Strait, etc.

The FBI guys were cool dudes. We got to go to their Christmas parties inside the steel door. When they left to go "hunting" they had what looked like musical instrument cases for their long guns.

One of them I knew had a license to sell firearms and I was about to buy a Walther PPK from him…but then I got engaged and my future wife asked me not to close that deal…and so began 36 years of compliance.
