Anyone dumb enough to accept this deserves to make $0 / year.
Is anyone forcing them to do it? Is this slavery or a volunteer position?

Maybe you should read the article before commenting. It's like how people accept internships with no pay. If you're a lowly academic, the chance to say you're connected to UCLA is an alluring one.

About a decade ago, I had 2 job offers. One offer was from a pretty famous person to work for a company owned by an extremely famous multi-billion dollar company, which is owned by an even famouser multi-billion-dollar company. But the pay was terrible.

The other offer was to work for a startup-ish company that you've never heard of, but for good pay.

I took the latter offer. But if the former offer was less terrible, I might've taken it just to be associated with all that fame.

So you're saying you're a capitalist.

Good.

Too bad that makes your actions counter to the Marxist philosophy of BLM. Therefore, you are racist.

Racist.

I'm not sure what you present is a fair comparison. They are looking for someone with a PhD, and most likely a Post Doc., to teach a class(es) for free. Maybe if you are lucky they might give you a free ticket to a football game. Why anyone would take that job is beyond me.

Adjuncts who have day jobs often do work for free or nominal pay (like $1) for a variety of reasons: prestige, resume building, relationship building, giving back to alma mater, recruiting talent, etc. And there are perks like you often get medical coverage, use of athletic facilities, etc.

I have never meet an Adjunct professor that has a day job and that works for free (maybe this occurs in Law and Business schools although I doubt the working for free occurs that often or ever). Most Adjunct professors have an appointment in another department but the Adjunct title allows them to work across departments.

I was once offered a side gig teaching a night class at a junior college and even they offered me $1,500 to do it. I turned it down as I'd rather have a root canal without anesthesia than develop a curriculum and then teach it.

I just love how janky1 loves to opine on topics about which he hasn't a clue.

And there are soo may things about which he is clueless.
