Correct. Just like Mississippi still celebrating slavery, errr "confederate heritage" in 2023. It's pathetic and disgusting and for people to pretend like it's anything other than a product of racism is specious at best.

Quote:

First of all, if there's any question about what the Confederates in Mississippi were fighting for, they made it crystal clear in their own official declaration of reasons for secession. Right up top, the very first reason Mississippi listed:

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slaverythe greatest material interest of the world."

Alrighty then.

And if that's not clear enough, in that same document, Mississippi's list of grievances with the United States government included that "it advocates negro equality, socially and politically," and "it denies the right of property in slaves, and refuses protection to that right on the high seas, in the Territories, and wherever the government of the United States had jurisdiction."

Quote:

And let's talk about this idea of "heritage." Mississippi is 145 years old. The Confederacy lasted a whopping four years. Four years is the time between two World Cup finals and less than half the lifespan of "The Office"hardly something that constitutes a "heritage." Mississippi still talking about its "Confederate heritage" is like someone in their 50s still talking about their high school glory days, only infinitely more embarrassing.

The Confederates were losers, both literally and figuratively. They were on the objectively wrong side of a war, which they themselves initiated, and they lost. There was no glory in fighting a bloody, costly war in order to maintain the institution of slavery. There was no honor in officially documenting racist beliefs about Black people and enlisting troops to kill fellow Americans in defense of those beliefs.

The fact that the Confederates believed so deeply in their cause that tens of thousands of them were willing to die for it doesn't make it right or OK or honorable. It actually makes it worse. Creating a mythology that there was some kind of righteousness in their fight might may make their descendants feel better, but it's fundamentally dishonest. They were on the wrong side of a war that shouldn't have been fought in the first place.
It's not just confederate worship where this shows up. We still have people collecting nazi memorabilia (you know, because they like "history) and every racist white person's favorite black guy is "dear friends" with one. We still live in a f*(cked up country with rampant institutional and individual racism and the racists have become even more bold now that they can convince people that woke is a 4-letter word they can use to diminish people and try to erase the negative connotations of history which may cause the younger generations to be less racist.

But the real problem, they tell us, is "indoctrination." What they mean by that is their fear that their children will realize they've been teaching them lies and garbage ideology their entire lives and that in the outside world they might actually learn how full of ish their racist parents are.

"But Trump, still, represents a liability for the Republican party, even as he fulfills many of their voters' most ardent desires and least honorable impulses. He's a crooked buffoon, and he's getting weirder and worse; outside of the Republican party itself, most voters don't like him, don't find him funny any more, don't want to put up with his chaos, and don't like what he's done to their country.

The Republican party today is messy, internally divided, filled with self-serving carnival-barkers like Trump and his descendants George Santos, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz more interested in garnering publicity for themselves than in securing electoral or policy victories for their party, and most of all, beholden to positions, most notably on abortion, that inflict untold suffering and are increasingly abhorrent to the average voter.

Republicans are a mess right now, and voters know it. Does the party?"

Not really. Underage for drinking. No one can honestly claim they thought the intern was 15 based on the article.

Liars, hypocrites, and morons.

False, especially in light of the emphasis on his hypocrisy for "calling drag queens groomers"

"A married Texas Lawmaker allegedly invited an underage intern over to his apartment to drink, then gave her a "loyalty test" ... Rep. Bryan Slaton has called drag queens groomers "

You have to read way down into the article to infer that underage means not yet 21. The guy is still a sleazeball though.

Your equivocation is adorable. He's a groomer. Plying an underage person with alcohol and asking for sexual favors.

But let's focus on men in dresses reading books to kids.

The story misleads you into thinking it is a minor. Parents should have input into what their minor kids are exposed to. We can both condemn this guy's behavior and condemn schools and libraries exposing children to men wearing provocative dresses without parents' permission. Let's keep the Dallas cheerleaders out of schools and libraries too.

Liberals with your views are adorable stupid, lying, hypocrites.

Only if you are stupid enough to think that minors work as interns for politicians.

OR, if you are so convinced that Liberals are controlling all media and are out to get your precious elected officials just trying to make America great again.

Either option is possible, you can let us know which one applies to you. The rest of your post is garden variety conservative false equivalency.

Yes, minors (under age 18) work as interns for politicians. You can now change your handle to "Actually, I am stupid" because that is what applies to you. Have a wonderful day.

More projection. You like to assume you know everything, but you keep proving you don't. Pages can be under 18, but internships are usually for college students. I suppose there are a few 17 year olds (age of consent in Texas, so by that standard still wouldn't be "underage") but they are likely an insignificant percentage.

This whole conversation stems from typical GQP fake outrage, false equivalency, and virtue signally. Focus on the nonsense rather than the fact that a Texas State Rep, a member of the family values Republican Party, gave alcohol to an underage woman and had an affair with her. His hypocrisy is obvious, even to liars, hypocrites, and morons. Which is why so many of you focus on nonsense.

Have a false equivalence free rest of your day, bubbles.

(And if you insist on continuing to call names and insult me directly, have a day filled with flaming bags of dog doo.)

Again, minors (under the age of 18) do work as interns for politicians. You are dead wrong. You can therefore change your handle to "Actually, I am incredibly stubborn and stupid ".

"Often, interns in congressional offices are college-age individuals or recent college graduates between 18 and 24 years old. Historically, individuals under 18 generally serve Congress as pages. There is no minimum age for congressional interns. If working with interns who are under 18, an office may want to consider the potential concerns related to working with minors and carefully evaluate the job-related skills and maturity of the prospective intern.

Since you know everything, exactly how many 16 and under interns are there in the Texas State House of Reps? Please provide names and DOB.

Or do you not really know and are pulling things out of your arse? (Beside your head - you keep that firmly lodged where the sun don't shine).

I don't know nor do I expect readers to know nor do I care about the specific age of all the interns in the Texas State House of Reps. You miss the point by a mile. Try reading instead of insulting.
