What do high skilled immigrant tech workers have to do with Greg Abbott's busing of border crossers to D.C. or anything said in this thread?

Yes, allowing border crosses to work in America would reduce wages and therefore reduce the cost of goods / inflation.

Easy.
Xenophobia.

How many languages do you speak?

Sure, someone who doesn't want large amounts of unskilled people coming through our border daily may be xenophobic and also not want legal skilled immigration, but that's a stretch. We aren't having a conversation about immigration of people America actually wants to recruit.

Would you like to have an honest conversation about immigration?

Sure, send me a link of something to read if you feel I am uninformed. Please note we are discussing the people crossing our southern border. We aren't discussing skilled tech workers on visas.

Okay,
I don't have any links to post at this time.
I don't know if you are uninformed, and I'm not thinking of how I'd want to inform you.

It's a worthy subject worth discussing for those interested in Public Policy. So, I'd be interested in having it.

By in past attempts to do so on this board, the conversation often breaks down via insults or incendiary language - both ways.

So perhaps we could go slow and create some definitions or categories first.

I think you have already wanted to distinguish between unskilled/educated people crossing the southern border and those who win highly paid tech jobs (often coming from India or China).

Fair enough. I'm happy to consider the discussion of those groups separately.

For me, I'd first like to not have the language and associations with the southern border crossings be what I consider to be offensive.

Can I tell you what bothers me there? And can you agree with that? Would it be okay to go there, see if we can agree upon some grounds for discussion?

What about what I wrote is offensive to you? Please keep this conversation entirely about unauthorized migrants crossing our southern border.

Can someone point me to the Republicans that are in favor of increasing legal immigration of skilled workers or otherwise?

As far as I can tell, this whole thing is a motte and bailey where conservatives actual position is xenophobic anti-immigration of any kind but they are pretending like their position is keeping serial killers from crossing the border.

Our economy and communities would greatly benefit from more skilled laborers who can come here and take on jobs that there aren't enough qualified US workers currently to fill. It will take decades, with meaningful change to our education system, to create enough home-grown talent for the high-tech jobs being created. Everyone I know tries to hire US workers first (which is required by law) but we are often hire foreign workers because there is no reasonable alternative. That's also a big part of the reason that so many US tech companies end up creating remote engineering offices - not to save money, not because they don't want US workers but because there is no reasonable alternative to grow your tech business within the US.

Please find me a Republican in the federal government who is in favor of increasing the legal immigration of skilled workers of any sort, I would like to understand why their position is a rarity within the GOP.

In the long term it would also be better to bring in even unskilled workers. Why? Their kids and grandkids become skilled workers.

Gee, I can't imagine why Biden wasn't jumping at the chance to meet with Gov. Abbott.

Hey, why are you treating me like I'm an asshat?

Nobody's forcing Greg Abbott to be governor of Texas.
If he doesn't like the conditions he's faced with, let someone else govern.
There are some worthy candidates that don't seem to be bothered by what is happening at the border.
maybe it's because they aren't racist A-holes.
