"But when the researchers gave the ChatGPT API 16 moral scenarios and then evaluated its responses on 464 other scenarios, they found the AI system's responses correlated 95% with human ones."

I saw a news report yesterday the FAA gave special approval for a Chinese manufactured flying car. Orders are being taken now; 300k. I struggle to believe this is true, that it wasn't an Onion piece.

Scenario: You are at a park with your extended family for a reunion, a flying car collides with an Amazon delivery drone, and crashes on your get together taking out your entire extended family.

What are the insurance policy limits or is it a drunk flying car driver that got wiped out investing in Bitcoin, has no assets and he let his flying car insurance policy lapse.
[In my scenario Amazon is without fault]

As if things were not bad enough in my once fair city.

Sorry, Bearister, but I have no video worth posting, because my problem with the self-driving cars is that they don't move. They just sit there, causing following cars to form a line behind them, stuck there until the oncoming traffic allows an opening for us to pass the robocar, one by one.

Some of them have a human in the car, and some don't. When I pull up next to one of them, if there is a human inside, he or she will just shrug their shoulders, with no clue about how to get moving. If there is no human inside, there is no telling if that car will ever move or just sit there.

In Golden Gate Park, I came upon a line of cars with one stopped at a stop sign. That car never moved. No one was inside that car, so one by one, we all passed this stationary beast, flipping off the big hunk of machinery.

When I come up behind a stopped robocar, I try and stop at different distances behind it, figuring that maybe it does not want to move, because I came too close to his bumper. It doesn't seem to matter how close I come, he is just going to stay there immovable, until I blow my top.

The last time I came up behind one of these immobile beasts at a stop sign, I waited a minute or two, then passed him, made a quick left, then a right turn at the next corner, and at the next corner another right turn, all the while breaking all speed limits, hoping that I could get ahead of the little bugger. As I approached the intersection, the robocar pulled up to intersection, stopped quickly and took off again. The robocar had probably anticipated my maneuver, and timed it just right to beat me to the next intersection, which it did.

Lately, I've seen an increasing number of robocars, parked at the curb, or side of the road, with lights flashing. No driver, no human, just a car sitting there. As least it was not blocking traffic.

Thanks for the warning. In a couple of years, maybe I won't be driving, or if I am, maybe I'll move to the High Desert, where there is a lot less traffic. And maybe take the train or bus from there to Cal games.

Sarah Silverman is suing OpenAI and Meta for copyright infringement / The lawsuits allege the companies trained their AI models on their works without their consent

Link:
https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/9/23788741/sarah-silverman-openai-meta-chatgpt-llama-copyright-infringement-chatbots-artificial-intelligence-ai

This is what I have noticed about AI. There isn't anything intelligent about it. It just steals ideas and materials that were created by others.

I think this is partly because the human idea of intelligence has to do with memory. The guy who wins on Jeopardy is perceived as smart because he knows a lot of things. To be sure, that is definitely a component of intelligence or at least one way to demonstrate that one is educated or well-read. However, an AI is going to cream any human at a trivia game. That doesn't really demonstrate creativity or the ability to combine different ideas into new ideas or solve problems.

A lot of these AI platforms are just really really fast encyclopedias with access to a lot of information and apparently they have haven't paid for all of it either. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If an AI does compose an original work who owns the copyright to it? If an AI gives out wrong information and someone is killed who absorbs the liability? Will AIs be treated as persons in the same way corporations are?

Does anyone think this SAG/WGA strike represents a monumental battle in human history on how AI will impact all our lives, particularly the value of human labor?

I can't think of a more powerful labor union up against the most powerful media companies.

This is like a really big deal.

I think eventually AI will be everywhere, but can this strike/negotiations slow change?

From the more anecdotal data from 82graddlsdad files...my wife and I have watched Cruise and Waymo vehicles for years in SF. First with test drivers then driverless. Far and away the most weird, stop in the middle of the road incidents have been by Cruise vehicles. No idea why.

Found the answer to a question I find important that the local media apparently doesn't (unless I missed it):

How much liability insurance per collision does a company like Waymo have to carry in the event one of its headless horsemen on wheels screws the pooch?

Answer:
"California requires companies, such as Waymo LLC, that test self-driving vehicles to carry a minimum of $5 million of liability insurance on its vehicles. If you are injured by the negligence of a Waymo employee who tests or oversees the Waymo vehicle, you may have much more insurance available to compensate you for injuries."

https://www.legalreader.com/who-is-liable-after-a-waymo-accident-in-los-angeles/

*If your damages exceeded $5M, Waymo would be on the hook for the excess, provided it had the scratch (or an umbrella policy)

They sound like the stuff of science fiction, but these techniques are already available to criminals preying on everyday consumers.
