There is hateful speech targeting groups based on skin color or ethnicity (white / Hispanic) or religion. Why is that OK? Why are some forms of bigotry OK and others not? Dajo gave his view on power dynamics, which at least is a reason even if I disagree for the reasons I stated. Others, it just seems like redirecting their natural tendency for bigotry to what they think will not cost them any virtue signaling stars.

I think there's a lot of stuff that gets called into question here. You make a fair point.

My complaint about the item in this thread is it was (by my interpretation, at least) specifically race baiting, which is just disgusting. There's no point to that.

Combined with the past personal admissions made by Minot make it clearly unacceptable in my book.

I think many of us dance on that fine line between opinion, comedy, satire, and outrage. It can be a delicate dance, and we should employ caution and personal review before we hit the submit button.

Sometimes we flag ourselves. I see plenty of empty/blank submissions - perhaps the author thought something was in bad taste and so deleted every word.
Other times, we rebuke one another. I've been rebuked. It's not fun. But that serves its purpose: "hey, man, you're painting too far outside the lines".

Perhaps this rebuke is something Minot will digest in earnest with a tad of humility.
Perhaps not.

It's not fun to be in argument, but we all seem to like posting here, so let's just self police and make it as clean a place as we can. I mean, it's pretty messy - just look at how horrified many who stray from Growls are.

So, I don't think asking to clean up the race taunting is asking for too much.

I don't think that is asking for too much. I think that is asking for too little. Race taunting is disgusting, because bigotry is disgusting. I think outrage at all bigotry needs to be a general principle and not a flexible one that is taken off the shelf only when it applies to those groups that one thinks will earn brownie points while engaging in the types of bigotry that are safe in the respective tribe to engage in.
