It was a joke. Are you really that devoid of a sense of humor? Do we need to talk about how black Vice President Harris' lineage was before being raped by a slaveowner?

Quote:
Geneticist Spencer Wells has discussed how Africa is the most genetically diverse continent in the world, and how all humans share DNA passed down from their African ancestors. In his TED Talk, A Family Tree for Humanity, Wells describes his Genographic Project, which uses shared DNA to understand how humans are connected. Wells notes that African populations have greater genetic diversity, less linkage disequilibrium, and more extensive population substructure than non-African populations. Africans also have genetic adaptations that have evolved in response to their diverse climates, diets, and exposure to infectious diseases.
Wells also notes that all humans share a single ancestor in Africa, Mitochondrial Eve, who lived within the last 200,000 years. On the male side, the Y-chromosome Adam lived around 60,000 years ago, which is only about 2,000 human generations. Wells uses the ancestry of the Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings family to illustrate that all humans are essentially family, and that only 8% of genetic differences are found between the classic "races".

tRump just exponentially ratcheted up the self loathing/Tom factor for any Black person that votes for him.
With his limited intellect, absence of self awareness, tone deafness and supplemented by his delusional state, he actually thought he was going to speak to that convention and hide his contempt for them.
I don't think it is a good idea to call a group of people black, which is just a color, when the proper spelling is Black, which refers to people of the African diaspora (I'm pretty sure your team, with glee, enjoy the politicization of the word and consciously use the lowercase b).
I also don't think it is a very good idea for anyone to vote for tRump, especially a person of color. If 1/3rd of younger Black voters don't like being tagged with the term "Tom," then they should stop acting like one.

Thank you for assisting in the defense against fools. But I don't think it's proper to automatically state (as commonly happens) that descendants of white men and black women were the product of rape, even if the man was a "slave owner".
I'm not trying to minimize the horrible aspects of slavery, which included rape.
I'm just saying, we don't know exactly what the nature of any one particular relationship was.
Rape is a powerful and varied word. It can mean physically overpowering, tearing a person's clothes off. Assault. Battery. It can also mean exploitation of coercion.
I imagine that sometimes a person who has grown up in a social system with severe inequality could allow themselves to engage willingly in a sexual relationship for personal gain, for personal interests. Is this "rape"?
Dr. Henry Louis Gates discusses such delicate topics with guests on his show Finding Your Roots excellently! I recall at least once he showed a black guest, who was the product of one such relationship, that the slave owning white man remained married to his black slave (mother of his children) for decades, long after the emancipation proclamation was announced.
Gates pointed out that we could never know the nature of their relationship, or how it began, but it did end with all the hallmarks of a committed love relationship as we know it now. It was states as such in the man's will upon his death.

Another powerful word is slavemaster. I'm going to go with rape unless proven beyond a shadow of a doubt otherwise.

Trump remarks on Harris' race echo his birtherism about Obama
https://www.axios.com/2024/08/01/trump-kamala-harris-black-birtherism
"Donald Trump's audacious lie about Vice President Kamala Harris' race confirmed what many had long suspected: running against a Black woman could summon the former president's worst impulses.
Why it matters: Amid outrage from Democrats and discomfort from Republicans, Trump is doubling down on his incendiary claim that Harris recently "became a Black person" for political convenience.
In one fell swoop, Trump hijacked a news cycle dominated by the enthusiasm surrounding Harris' campaign and redirected attention to his long and controversial record on race."
