Unbelievable. Did people just stay home or what? What has the turnout been?

Turnout is high. This is what people wanted.

We need to reckon with what is happening here: Trump is winning because he's improved his margins with various racial minorities (not winning them outright, but doing better). It's not enough to just complain about racism or whatever anymore.

Now I kind of do think a lot of this is Trump-specific. Not sure another Republican would be doing so well here. But he has as kind of weird charisma that just works.

How do you have a guy that lost the popular vote twice come back and win it after having done nothing but complain he was cheated for four years? And he is more popular than ever? Even people in his own party came out against him. Makes no sense.

Or is it just better to be a white male than a black woman in America? Because I think that plays a big part in why Latino men in particular turned away from her.

The polling suggested this turn was already happening under Biden. There are larger trends at play.

That was just the economy and Biden presided over horrible inflation while telling us all it was fine. It was a lie. It wasn't all his fault of course but the President takes the fall for that. In any other election cycle I would agree. Why does the cat litter that cost $14 in 2019 cost $28 now? Why is a soda at a pizza place $4? Totally get it. But I feel like we can deal with all of that regardless of who the executive is. Trump won't fix it. He helped cause it! This was our chance to put him away for good and go back to normalcy. Instead it is going to be chaos for four more years? That is what people want? Chaos?

Dems need to stop trying to get too cute with their DEI politics. I think running women twice now has proven to be a losing proposition. Other women don't turn out for them and many men won't vote for them.

Repubs can only hope Dems continue to think like this during election cycles.

Think like what? That Latino men are sexist?

My partners dad is Puerto Rican and he is a big Trump supporter.

My honest opinion? He is trying to distance himself from his own past and thinks that by attaching to wealthy white men he will be able to achieve not quite what they have but enough.

My sisters were both married to Mexican-Americans. Same. Very conservative and macho culture. Some self-hatred.

Doesn't mean they won't ever vote for a woman but it better be one they choose.

I didn't vote for Trump, as he is a scumbag. But I didn't vote for Harris, either, an incredibly weak candidate and a sl ut to match. As someone who spends much time in SF, I know her resume, and it is empty.

Hey Democrats:

- Maybe Americans see the stupidity in making stealing up to $1,000 a misdemeanor.

- Maybe Americans noticed that the new policies that Harris touted as her own were a train wreck, such as idiotic rent control (99% of economists will tell you it's a terrible idea, even economists at Berkeley) and price controls.

- Maybe Americans see the stupidity in suggesting blacks deserve millions of dollars each in reparations.

- Maybe Americans saw and see the stupidity of "defund the police."

- Maybe Americans (including non whites) are tired of the constant focus on race.

- Maybe Americans see how stupid many left-leaning ideas are, such as "it's racist to enforce the law." Maybe Americans realize why a higher percentage of people being pulled over are non-white, and it has little to do with hard-working police forces that couldn't even see the skin color of the driver when they initiated the stop. This is why BART is doomed... its board has been, and will continue to be, controlled by Progressive fools like Lateefah Simon (who is moving up the political ladder BECAUSE she is blind and black...it certainly can't be because of her role in driving BART into the gutter...I mean, these people FOUGHT HARD against improved fare gates. SMH).

The one terrific thing about tonight is that the Progressive movement, and all of their idiotic ideas, is dead.

It's a shame that the Democrats failed to come up with a talented, qualified candidate, because they could have had my vote. Oh well.

I hope in four years we get a respectable, talented individual to vote for. But I'm not holding my breath.

I also think Dems are very very wrong on the border in the sense that most Latinos who are already here don't want more people coming over to compete with them. They also see it as people not waiting their turn like everyone else. Dems are losing Latino votes on the border issue and they aren't gaining votes anywhere on it. It is a losing issue. Make sure we treat people humanely but something has to change.

It's both! And more probably! It isn't either/or.

A lot of Latinos are also very judgmental about skin tone. Kamala didn't have that working for her either.

And when people say "close the border" they often mean to "brown skinned people" from El Salvador or Haiti or Sudan, not Melania Trump. It's code for bigotry. The border isn't actually as big of a problem as the GOP makes it out to be but "They took our jobs" and now "They ate our dog!"

This country has much deeper problems and immigrants coming to work for low wages actually solves more problems than it creates. But the GOP appeals to people's fears that their city will end up like San Francisco (god forbid) unless we stop it!

Let's face it. The Dems have written off much of the South as winnable just based on racism so it really is still very much an issue even though you think it is "vile" to insinuate people won't vote for a black woman. Many won't, Latinos and otherwise.

Or more creative solutions.

Work visas.

Collaborations with their home country or other nations.

More vetting.

Company towns.

Just something different from the status quo where people come over when we want them and we drown them in the river when we don't.

The other issue Dems are losing on is homelessness.

I have a lot of relatively liberal friends who are sick of drug addicts running around, stealing, crapping in public, and living in tents.

And really this comes down to public health, public safety, and sense of fairness.

You don't get to live in Beverly Hills (even in a tent) because you want to.

If you have a drug problem get treatment or go to jail.

People are not okay with this.

People don't like either party because neither party has anything to do with their material worth. So, disruption of the establishment is a basis for many voters and Trump promises this; Harris does not.

Biden is unpopular so is his economy, so is his immigration policy- these are key areas of Trump's attack which resonate. Harris can't defend them and can't change them.

Harris did pretty well with a bad hand but in an environment like this the last thing you want is an elitist progressive Californian with an incumbent's touch not a game changing people's. The focus on "our democracy is at stake" was also particularly dumb. Trump's Presidency was inconsequential; he's a game show host not Hitler. Fascism is ahistorical in the US so the average voter doesn't care about a meaningless term

What is really astonishing is that the lunatic Trump expanded his coalition while the Dems diminished theirs- new incidental voters, yoing people, minorities. For all the talk of Harris ground game and money. Trump ran a fantastic campaign that burnt hers to the ground. He now becomes an undisputed game changer- Reagan republicanism is dead. As a result so are Clinton and Obamaism. Good riddance to all

2028 will be interesting
