You guys thought Trump was going to be different. He is. He's taking intrusive surveillance and personal data gathering to the next level. He's the Masterbaser.

What a week!

Tom del Beccaro: For all those who claimed the sky is falling . . . and that the tariffs strategy would wreck the economy and cause inflation.

INFLATION IS DOWN: "Inflation rate slipped to 2.1% in April, lower than expected, Fed's preferred gauge shows," CNBC reports.

INCOME IS UP: Personal income increased 0.8% in April "almost TRIPLE the expectations." "They're powerful numbers up 0.6% in January, up 0.7% in February, up 0.5% last month, up 0.8% this month. This is a GREAT four-month start to any year."

CNBC: "The income numbers, really, for the first four months of year they're stellar ... Why don't we give credit where credit is due? Income really shooting up."

Hey Genius, Americans stopped spending last month.

Retail Sales were only +0.1% in April.
Consumer Spending rose only 0.2% in April.

"There is clear evidence that consumers are battening down the hatches," said Olu Sonola, head of U.S. economic research at Fitch Ratings. "The Fed will welcome the favorable inflation reading in this report, but they are likely to interpret it as the calm before the storm."

Minor security checks and paperwork enhancements to Obamacare.

"Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Sunday defended cuts to Medicaid in the budget bill House Republicans passed last month, saying that "4.8 million people will not lose their Medicaid unless they choose to do so."

"Johnson told NBC News' "Meet the Press" that the bill imposes "commonsense" work requirements for some Medicaid recipients and added that he's "not buying" the argument that the work requirements, which would require able-bodied Medicaid recipients to work, participate in job training programs or volunteer for 80 hours a month, are too "cumbersome." "

And President Trump pardons rapper NBA Youngboy.

Amuse@amuse: The Static Fallacy of the CBO and the Virtue of Growth

"The Federal Reserve's data repository, FRED, presents one of the most quietly subversive truths in modern economics. Across administrations, tax regimes, and political ideologies, federal tax receipts have hovered around an average of 17.5% of GDP. This single metric, consistent across time and policy, should provoke a complete reconsideration of fiscal strategy. If no matter how high or low tax rates go, the government captures roughly 17.5% of the economy, then the only sane objective is to grow the economy. This is not ideology, it is arithmetic....

"...The CBO consistently underestimates the growth impact of tax and regulatory reforms. When Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed, the CBO predicted modest effects. Instead, GDP growth surged to 2.9% in 2018, well above forecast. Capital investment jumped, business confidence soared, and tax receipts increased. It wasn't magic. It was motion."

"The same fallacy mars the CBO's score of Trump's latest initiative, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Projecting a paltry 1.7% long-term growth rate, the CBO forecasts a $3.8 trillion increase in debt. But a growth rate of just 2.2% cuts that shortfall by more than a trillion. A 2.7% growth rate nearly wipes it out. Add in the revenue from Trump's reciprocal tariffs, conservatively estimated at $2.3 to $3.3 trillion over a decade, and the fiscal picture flips from deficit to surplus. The math is not fuzzy, it is just inconvenient for the central planners."

"Why does the CBO get it wrong? Because its models assume a static world, where tax cuts are giveaways and regulation is costless. ..."

"The Trump agenda focuses on unleashing growth:...

"Trump's approach, often derided as simplistic, is in fact the most sophisticated policy vision in Washington. It recognizes the limitations of static models, the distortions of bureaucratic incentives, and the moral hazards of dependency. It wagers, correctly, that the American people are not liabilities to be managed but assets to be unleashed."

That's common sense. The exporters don't want to pay the tariffs, but they will absorb it to the extent that it doesn't affect demand. Ideally, there is domestic competition for the tariffed products.

As I stated before, the tariffs are too aggressive. Secondly, big business owns most of the news outlets and their supply chain runs out of countries like China. Doesn't Bezos own WAPO? Finally, TDS libs are more than happy to embellish any anti-Trump news.

I wouldn't want to take away from the money that you sock away for your $5.99 Denny's Daily Value Slam.
You might just be one of the cheapest posters in Bearinsider history.

You must be upset about Trump cutting your Medicaid.

I'm sorry.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that 50 cents moves the needle for you.

If I was still living at home with my parents in their basement and had no expenses, 50 cents would probably move the needle for me too. But it doesn't.

My apologies.
