And yes, for a Congressman, he has a remarkable amount of integrity, a whole lot more than Trump or your run of the mill establishment GOPer ot Dem.

The Democrat version of this is "We would do all of this if it wasn't for that damn parliamentarian."

Meanwhile, they are signing bombs for Israel and sending all of our money to Ukraine.

How do you think the spending for our aid to Ukraine compares to the current war in Iran?

The real answer for why Dems were limited in what they can pass was having a very slim majority and thus being hamstrung by what Manchin/Sinema would support. Kind of similar to why Republicans find it hard to pass anything now.

These excuses are laughable when you see how much a President that actually wants to do things has been able to do. Granted, they're all bad ideas but it just puts to shame all of the Democrats' reasons for why they can't ever do anything other than the Blue MAGA versions of what Red MAGA would do.

Congress is utterly irrelevant.

Would you have been happy if Biden had just said "Screw it. I'm going to do an end run around the other branches of government and issue a long list of executive orders to get my agenda done."

I would be happier if Congress would do its job and act as a check on the power of the other two branches like they are supposed to, but they have no interest in doing that. So until such a time comes when they actually do something, I am not accepting any Democrat excuses about why they can't do anything when they're in power other than support war.
I too would be happier if Congress would grow a spine and do their jobs. Genuflecting to the President's whims (both Trump and Biden) isn't cutting it. However, I'm blaming both parties. A pox on both sides until they develop some gumption and initiative.

I blame both parties too, but since this forum is full of Democratic Party sycophants, I have to constantly remind them how worthless their party is. I don't need to post nearly as much about the Republicans (though I've got plenty of criticism of Trump's stupid war) because all the sycophants have that taken care of.

She always seemed blond enough... maybe her mistake was not being super-aggressive working on Trump's enemies list.

Even Pirro couldn't deliver the goods on a vindictive prosecution based on no supporting facts or law. Lawfare only works when the target actually commits the crime, you know, like every f@ucking Republican that has ever been targeted.

Well, I should have clarified that my definition of "worked" is securing felony convictions. It didn't "work" in the sense of keeping a convicted felon out of the White House, keeping pardoned convicted felons behind bars or keeping legitimate investigations and prosecutions from being terminated once the target became POTUS.

Bingo.

For starters, it's a great way to destroy economic growth.
But I'm beginning to think that some of the posters here never took an Econ 101 class at Cal.

I'm honestly stunned that the Trump Administration is going to sink itself with a war in the Middle East, the one thing I thought Trump didn't want to do. I guess I shouldn't have put any idiocy past him.

Exactly what I have been thinking the past several months. I actually thought he was serious about not liking wars. And maybe he was! Something changed. The cynic in me says...

1. when he didn't get the "Noble", he said, screw it, I'll make them wish I was a man of peace

2. he was delighted to be on evening TV, expounding on existential matters and negotiating with world leaders... the photo opps were so much better than fighting affordability (Boring!)

I honestly don't know if you're stunned because it had been repeated here many times that Trump has stated that Iran can't have a nuclear weapon.

People can disagree about the reasons for war and the execution of it, but they can't claim there were no prior negotiations, unsuccessful as they were, and that the idea to attack was never on the table.

I never bought Trump's anti-war shtick. Megalomaniacs roll wih war. I figured we'd end up at war over an overreaction to a small slight. This is even more stupid - which is also a personality match. There is no end to the stupid.

My prediction was war inside America.
ICE street violence was close, but I had predicted actual tanks, so we're not there yet on my bingo card.

A nuke exploding somewhere is on my card of Trumpism calamity - could be a dirty bomb or cloud of contamination, anywhere in the world. Getting closer as it appears they might go in hunting for uranium. A could see a detonation that way. But some sort of nuclear scare.

Also on the card now, very much, is terrorist retribution. 9/11 was a total shock to me. Osama who?? But this will be no surprise. It's coming, and it's very sad.

Trump is a madman. An absolute madman.

I think the cheering "patriots" who elected him simply never learned much from the past.

But didn't you see horsechit coming?
I mean, this is what I've been screaming about for 10 years.
I know it'll tick you off to have to admit, but now that you are, how come you're only now critical of what he has to offer as a leader (which is horsechit)?

I only really ask that when that horsechit hits the fan and platters all across America, just know from whence it emanated. Don't believe the horsechit propaganda narratives that will be peddled via the same non-news so-called "News" outlets.

And so much for balancing the annual budget deficit.
This guy has been a complete FRAUD.

FYI: I believe Fiscal 2026 DoD Budget was $961 Billlion

Jacking this up to $1.5 Trillion would increase the National Debt by $5.8 Trillion.
And $6.9 Trillion when factoring in interest costs.

I wonder what "other" programs get the axe to make way for this request.

The negotiations were not unsuccessful, according to several high officials from the US, UK and Oman. We had a JCPOA+ on the table, and Bibi and co scuttled it, going as far as assassinating the Iranian negotiating party.

Israel wanted war, and that's what Kushner, Witkoff and Trump delivered.

And now it's all blowing up in their faces, Trump has painted himself into a corner of escalation with Iran that is going to grow more disastrous with every doubling down.

Justice Department says Trump can keep his presidential records

Donald Trump does not need to turn over his presidential records to the National Archives, the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel concluded in an opinion this week.

Rejecting a decades-old law enacted after the Watergate scandal to ensure the preservation of presidential records, Assistant Attorney General T. Elliot Gaiser stated that the Presidential Records Act was unconstitutional and "untethered from any valid and identifiable legislative purpose."

"The PRA exceeds the oversight power because it serves no identifiable and valid legislative purpose. It exceeds any preservation power because Congress cannot preserve presidential records merely for the sake of posterity," the 52-page opinion said.

for ensuring the public ownership of presidential records. After his first term in office, Trump was accused of violating the Presidential Records Act by storing boxes of sensitive presidential records at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

He was indicted for allegedly retaining classified information and obstructing justice, though the case was dismissed over U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon's concerns about the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith.

With three years left in Trump's second term, his Department of Justice now says the president "need not further comply" with the law governing the handover of his presidential records.

The DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel is tasked with issuing legal advice for the executive branch, but the Trump administration could face a legal challenge if they attempt to implement the policy.

Drafted in the wake of Watergate, the Presidential Records Act was passed in 1978 and changed the legal ownership of presidential records from private to public. Every president since Ronald Reagan has been subject to the law, which places the National Archives and Records Administration in control of the official records -- such as emails, phone records, and other documentary material created by the president and his staff in the course of their duties -- once the president leaves office.

Under the PRA, former presidents have, at most, 12 years to turn over all their presidential records.

Gaiser's opinion, however, claims that the law is unconstitutional because it "exceeds Congress's enumerated and implied powers and aggrandizes the Legislative Branch at the expense of the constitutional independence and autonomy of the Executive."

"Just as Congress could not constitutionally invade the independence of the Supreme Court and expropriate the papers of the Chief Justice or Associate Justices, Congress cannot invade the independence of the President and expropriate the papers of the Chief Executive," the opinion said.
