Its hard to know what will happen. Some concerns are summarized here: https://www.npr.org/2024/11/12/nx-s1-5183014/trump-election-2024-nih-rfk

Historically, there has not been much difference between parties in research funding levels. The main difference is that the GOP tends to put restrictions on certain types of research such as fetal tissue and embryonic stem cell research and climate research, while the democrats don't. However, the new administration is talking about making drastic changes, which very well could affect funding to all research universities while disrupting important research. Cal already has serious financial challenges without losing grant overhead funds, so loss of research grants would indeed be a major problem for Cal like all other research universities.

This Trump administration is not the historical GOP. I am generally preparing for near worst case scenarios.

On the bright side, at least we don't have a medical school whose research will be defunded.

Budgets are controlled by congress, which is made up of a bunch of old guys worried about their health, which is what I'm hanging my hopes on for now.

The fewer dollars wasted on so-called "science", the better. Time to get back to the REAL purpose of college, minor league football and basketball.

Unfortunately for us trump did illegally circumvent the anti impoundment act of 1974 in his last stint, and has been vocal about completely usurping the same act in his upcoming term to completely eliminate funding to the who, all climate related spending, the dept of Ed, etc.
We truly are a nation of idiots now.
The good news for us in California is local and state funding already accounts for 95% of Ed funding, a huge portion of climate and environment spending (I don't know the number), and healthcare funding.
Personally I think it's time to gtfo but I'll wait and see because idiots usually have idiot wives and idiot wives are superficial and they all have a huge she-boner for Gavin newsom.

Dreamy Gavin to the rescue!

Yeah but RFK said he's putting real cane sugar back into Coke, so that's a clear win right there!

Keep this off the main board...this has almost no reason to be on the football board.

I used to frequent the OT board, but then I realized I was wasting my life on there. I'm so much better off doing things other than getting sucked into that vortex.

I posted this here because it very well might affect Cal's decision making when it comes to throwing more money at athletics.
