I watched 60 Minutes last night.
I saw the opening. Ho hum.

Now I'm reading the outrage from MAGAworld, and as I read the posts, all I can ask is,

"What are you so angry about?"

Not to be dismissive, but they are always angry. It's an inherent trait of grievance politics.

Who is MAGA? The country shifted red except white men with college degrees living in urban areas.

So funny how you showed up again on OT enthusiastically and antagonistically after Trump won.
You said for years you weren't in favor of Trump, but here you are doing Trumpy things.

A Trumpy thing being asking the same question you did

I left because it was boring and hopelessly provincial and clueless. Paranoid raving about "fascism" interspersed with Blungold's performative brain numbing lectures on moral superiority and no discussion just battling twitter feeds from both parties

Now it's fun again. Lot to discuss with a new administration

I didn't vote for either-not much of a choice really.

Im not opening the link.

Have people not paid attention on the left? Protesters - Antifa - were in the streets of Portland burning federal buildings in 2016 after Trump's win. Prominent people publicly mimic his death, openly say F#%^ Trump on national tv broadcasts, etc. We have people contemplating suicide, giving up sex for 4 years, calling our President elect Hitler, etc. Two assassination attempts; 1 failed attempt followed up with a public apology and offer to pay a reward for someone else succeeding. There's a TON of anger there too

It seems like there is less of that post-election chaos this time around, probably because the Democrat establishment and the MSM haven't been agitating as much.

No. I don't think so.
For me it's simply emotional resignation. There's no need to listen to news anymore. We know what it is, and the dye is cast.

Unlike Trump's reaction, which was to rile up his people to the point of a massive riot, D's are collectively simply depressed and resigned.

However, I imagine that the Resistance will reawaken once the Trump injustices restart.

…funny how you say "this time", as if the two times are the same. No, they are totally different. In 2020, the whackos lost. In 2024, sanity has lost out to insanity. Sanity doesn't riot and attempt to overthrow democracy

The things you complain about are the fringe.
The things I complain about are the man himself. HE led the democracy threatening riot.

I know you'll try to argue otherwise, but you cannot convince me.

They won and are still upset… I been saying that since the 6th it's a weird interesting dynamic. When Cal football wins it's beautiful if my Steelers win it's a great week. Their boy wins and still frowns and attitude. I have few thoughts as to why

Its an interesting dynamic. In other threads, 34, movielover and 003 are constantly putting up stats showing how they owned the libs. Ok. Fine. I'd do that too. Spiking the football is something I like. But there is a measure of anger coming with those stats. "You lost and this is why!" "You're in trouble now libs!"

It doesn't seem like MAGA is satisfied with victory. Know why? Because its a movement fueled by isolation, anger, exclusion. Of "get back at them". Its akin to Carl Schmitt's description of "friend and enemy". Its not about the win anymore. Its about revenge.

Do you have an example of

"003 constantly putting up stats showing how they owned the libs"

that isn't provoked by a liberal attacking a conservative?
philly1121

A quick perusal of threads I've been on in off topic shows that its 34 doing most of the stat displays.

And "provoked" is classic MAGA and speaks to this thread. MAGA wins the election, but feels the need to defend their position/vote. No one provoked you to defend your vote 003. lol

By their actions it seems the country winning isnt what the goal is. It was about their team winning not the country…

Au contraire. When you and other sore losers puke out a bunch of post-election insults, I can and will respond. I didn't vote for Trump although I am happy Kamala lost.

What bs. lol take a look at what got posted after in terms of demographics and "why Trump won" and "here's what he's gonna do next" and "look who got nominated".

I appreciate that you didn't characterize my posts as angry.

I find the Why? discussion to be a very interesting political / cultural exploration. "Everyone" hates Trump. The economy "is good." D's hand picked a successor to their ousted incumbent President and the entire party rallied around her. Harris had 1.5 BILLION dollars. She lost. WTH happened?

I'm reminded of a monologue I heard many years ago. Maybe it was from Swimming To Cambodia. The speaker talked about how the Khmer Rouge survived in the jungles of Cambodia for decades living off of bugs and tree bark while they plotted their revolution. They were angry and pissed off and it grew more and more over time. The tide turned and they took over Cambodia. There was no joy, just a conviction that now everyone else would pay for their years of struggle and hardship. As we know, millions of Cambodians paid the ultimate price.

This reminds me somewhat of the current situation. MAGA won, but they are still angry and pissed off and ready to exact retribution. Do I think we will have pyramids of human skulls? Of course not. I do think the next four years will be more about getting even than governing.

That's what I'm thinking right now. Last week I felt like we were on about page 65 of It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis. Hopefully I'll be wrong and cooler heads will prevail.

Nobody 's angry

64% of the population voted- about 50/50- so 32% Tr, 32% Harris, 36% no
Outside of a few loons on twitter from each side I'd say very few people are angry.
Most people- outside of media bubbles- don't care about the choice or the outcome: this includes large amount of people who did vote

Its an interesting juxtaposition. Economy good. Inflation down. Unemployment down. Job creation. No idea what happened. I mean, I have my thoughts. But I can only speculate. I will say that AOC asked her constituents on IG why they split the ticket with their votes. Their answers were quite interesting. One of the most interesting responses was: "Trump is a change agent. You (AOC) are a change agent." Or something to that effect.
