"Donald Trump's popular vote total has fallen below 50 percent, and his margin over Kamala Harris has narrowed considerably as all the votes are counted."

…… and his margin is the forty-fourth worst out of 51 presidential elections since 1824.

*But a W is a W, just not his kind of W. I would have preferred a Harris win with the 51st worst margin since 1824.

If we count "votes" for another week, it may end up being the absolute worst margin!

Alameda County is still counting votes. Whatup with that? I didn't think Madame D.A. was going to concede until the last dog was hung.

It takes time to print the ballots, sign them, deliver them and count them.

Just want to add that in 2024, it's persondate, not mandate. Come on already get with the program.

He won fair & square, but it's a narrow margin. Don't listen to anyone who calls it a "landslide," and if the GOP governs like it was they will get punished for it in the next elections.

The stat I saw was that Kamala would have needed to flip about 250,000 votes in 3 states while Trump needed to flip 80,000 in 4 states in 2020.

Kamala got 48%.
This is no "mandate".

bonus fact: Hillary needed 80,000 in 3 states in 2016.

I'm not so sure about this claim.
1. I imagine it's somewhat impossible for Trump to behave ethically. I'd be inclined to say We Just Don't Know About Any Cheating Today.
2. If it was fair, he'd be in jail for his past crimes, which are immense.

Child's play. Hilary destroyed entire countries, if not continents, with the takedowns of Syria, Libya and Honduras among others. The destruction of Libya ended up destabilizing north and sub-Saharian Africa and precipitated the migrant crisis in western Europe, along with the regime change/civil war operation in Syria.

This guarantees that Trump will end up with less than 50% of the nation's total votes! That's no mandate!! So every time you hear someone state that Trump has a mandate to govern, you can know that it's untrue.

As of Friday morning, 315,705 ballots still needed to be counted.

While the number of uncounted ballots appears high, it accounts for only about 2 percent of the state's total vote. The largest number of uncounted ballots is in Los Angeles County, the state's largest.

California counties have until December 3 to report their final results, meaning they have more than a week to continue counting and verifying ballots.

Lake County, which is north of San Francisco, has the highest percentage of ballots remaining. Fifty-three percent of ballots in the county have yet to be counted.

Statewide, 118,000 ballots still need to be cured. Ballot curing is a process in which election officials help voters fix mistakes, such as signatures that cannot be verified, on rejected ballots to ensure they can be counted by the deadline.

Sometimes I think it's both fascinating and helpful to study history.

Did you know that, like Trump, the Nazi party also never garnered a majority of votes? Isn't it fascinating how minority groups are able to take over?

I think if the USA went to Ranked Choice Voting, Kamala would be President. Certainly Hillary would have.

The Nazi Party may have never been a thing.

Quote:

Germany held federal elections during the 1920s to 1940s under very different political systems: the Weimar Republic (19191933) and later under the Nazi regime (19331945). Here's a breakdown of the tide turning elections

1932:
Two elections were held as no stable majority could be formed, leading to a rise in Nazi influence.

In 1932, Germany held two federal elections for the Reichstag due to political instability: one in July and another in November. Both elections marked a significant rise in support for extremist parties, particularly the Nazi Party (NSDAP) and the Communist Party (KPD), as the Weimar Republic faced deep economic and social crises.

July 31, 1932 Election Results

National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP):
Votes: 13,745,680
Percentage: 37.3%
Seats: 230 (largest party in the Reichstag, but no majority)

Social Democratic Party (SPD):
Votes: 7,959,712
Percentage: 21.6%
Seats: 133

Communist Party of Germany (KPD):
Votes: 5,282,636
Percentage: 14.3%
Seats: 89

Centre Party:
Votes: 4,589,430
Percentage: 12.4%
Seats: 97

Smaller parties, including the German National People's Party (DNVP), received the remaining seats.

Outcome:

The NSDAP became the largest party but lacked an absolute majority. No coalition could form, as other parties were unwilling to work with the Nazis or the Communists.
Political deadlock led to the November election.

November 6, 1932 Election Results

National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP):
Votes: 11,737,000
Percentage: 33.1%
Seats: 196
A significant drop in support compared to July, though still the largest party.

Social Democratic Party (SPD):
Votes: 7,248,901
Percentage: 20.4%
Seats: 121

Communist Party of Germany (KPD):
Votes: 5,980,249
Percentage: 16.9%
Seats: 100

Centre Party:
Votes: 4,231,648
Percentage: 11.9%
Seats: 90

Outcome:

* The NSDAP lost seats, signaling diminishing momentum. However, political instability persisted as no coalition could command a majority.
* In January 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor, despite the Nazis losing seats in the November election. This was due to backroom deals with conservative elites who believed they could control Hitler.

Summary of 1932 Elections

1. July 1932: Nazis peaked with 37.3% of the vote but failed to secure a majority.
2. November 1932: Nazi support declined to 33.1%, but they remained the largest party.

Nazi Era (19331945) Federal Elections:

Under Adolf Hitler's regime, elections were no longer democratic. They became controlled plebiscites to consolidate Nazi power.

1. 1933:
Election Date: March 5, 1933
Held after Hitler became Chancellor. The election was manipulated through propaganda and violence, but the Nazis still failed to win an outright majority.

The March 5, 1933, German federal election was the last somewhat free election during the Nazi era, although it was conducted under conditions of severe intimidation and repression. Here's a summary of the results:

Election Context

Adolf Hitler had been appointed Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933.
The election was held in an atmosphere of terror:
The Reichstag Fire on February 27, 1933, had been blamed on communists, justifying harsh crackdowns.
Opposition parties were persecuted, and Nazi paramilitary groups (SA and SS) intimidated voters.

1933 Election Results

National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP):
Votes: 17,277,180
Percentage: 43.9%
Seats: 288
Although the Nazis became the largest party, they did not achieve an outright majority.

Social Democratic Party (SPD):
Votes: 7,181,629
Percentage: 18.3%
Seats: 120

Communist Party of Germany (KPD):
Votes: 4,848,058
Percentage: 12.3%
Seats: 81
The KPD was shortly banned after the election.

Centre Party:
Votes: 4,424,905
Percentage: 11.2%
Seats: 73

Smaller parties like the German National People's Party (DNVP) also participated, and the DNVP secured 52 seats with about 8% of the vote. They allied with the Nazis after the election.

Aftermath

The Nazi Party used its strong position to pass the Enabling Act on March 23, 1933, which gave Hitler dictatorial powers. This effectively ended the Weimar Republic and established the totalitarian Nazi regime.
Other political parties were either banned or dissolved under pressure later that year.

I anticipate Trump will attempt to create a state of chaos, which he will blame his opposition for, so that he can lengthen his stay beyond 8 years.

He will use his rhetoric and incredibly outrageous governing to rile up opposition.

Perhaps the best thing to do is nothing. Don't hold any marches in the streets, so that his MAGA troops cannot engage in armed conflict, so that he cannot draw in the military. Only under such chaos could he deny 2028 elections.

Perhaps we need a BI Thread on Elections which holds an examination of the best forms of voting procedures.

Look at this video posted in 2018

Cameras streaming polling stations live to a Russian government website during the country's national elections on Sunday captured workers at a Moscow-area voting centre appearing to meddle by stuffing up to 11 ballots in approximately 13 minutes.

This election, there was a line when I went to vote.
Two elections ago my precinct worker told me I was only the 17th person all day.

Maybe your solution is not unimpeachable.

Lolol.

Who is ever going to audit 150M ballots?
Remember the chaos of just a few counties in Florida? Hanging chad?

At some point, individuals need to have morals, ethics, character, dignity, honesty.

That is just one reason why Trump and Trumpism (look at his cast of
sleezebag nominees and jailed hires) was the wrong choice. Look at Al Gore yielding on a mere 500 votes when there was plenty of evidence of pre-election voter roll clearing VS Trump contesting 4 states and something like 175,000 votes that separated him from Biden. (Kamala needed 3 states and 200,000 votes, for comparison.)

But whatever… when the tanks stop rolling and the blood is washed away, the next generation will have learned its lesson. An axiom we apparently cannot avoid.

Perhaps it was Soren Kierkegaard who suggested the idea that "each generation must learn the horrors of war for itself."

just as it was Justice Kennedy who said the same about the honors of democracy.

….except Kierkegaard says it cannot be taught - it must be experienced.
This is why, I suppose, I was expecting someone like Spielberg to come out with a Private Ryan, Platoon, or Schindler's List type film on the horrors of Trump/ism before this election. Movies move people, just like Trump's Hate Rallies did. Kamala didn't bring it. And the J6 hearings were too long ago and not "entertaining" enough.
